I have a number of matched pairs of 2SC5200/2SA1943 and was wondering if these would suit as output devices?

Would they also suffice as driver devices or is low cob important for bjts in this position?

These transistors are improvements over the ones I was using when these amps were originally built. They will work very well as outputs and drivers.

Also see my next post.

A number of people have E-mailed me concerning transistor substitutions as the ones I have listed may be difficult to find in their countries. Yes, other transistors may be substituted as long as the specs are reasonably close. Voltage should not be a problem with 35V supplies. It is important to use devices with sufficient power and current ratings. The output and driver pair mount to the heat sink, which I trust will be adequate in your projects. The rest of the TO220 devices will dissipate about 0.35W each and should not need heat sinking. I run them warm on purpose. The pin outs for the outputs and all of the TO220 transistors is the same (BCE) and seems to be standard between brands. The TO92 transistors I use have ECB pin out. This is just the opposite of the TO220s. This is NOT standard between brands. It is up to the builder to know what pin out they are using.

I have built this circuit using a variety of transistors and all have worked well.

The communication/transference of audio, from this amplifier to the speaker

is excelent....better than others...it is clear it transfer without troubles.

This one is a superior design...vastly superior design to the output.

Now i have professional 1000 US speakers..high quality drivers and enormous Professional 15 speaker... so...i am not more submited to criticisms from people that want to reduce the value of my opinions based into my speaker that were not professional nor high end.

Now they will have to accept with more respect.

And the professional speakers are just confirming what i have already perceived.

Congratulations Mr. Steve Dunlap...your circuit is really good.

I am listening to it, daily, and testing, and calling friends to evalutate and making comparison and the unit is a real killer.

regards,

Carlos

Now i have no plastic speakers, all them top of the line

High excursion, lowest distortion into Brazilian market, better enclosures, heavier and stronger and non vibrating ones..high complicance...better linearity and using air core inductors and high quality condensers inside..also non inductive high power resistances...the big speaker is 1500 watts RMS unit (guaranteed to inject DC... i do not believe... despite of that moves soflty and accept 30 watts RMS moving full)

Well... the ones used to criticise my paper speakers...now will have to find another reasons.

People when do not accept your ideas because does not match their own beliefs (and some of them are untouchable owners or the truth!) them they say your speakers are not good, your home no good, your ears no good, your amplifier no good, your wires no good, your dog no good and your socks are not good too!

I am ready to face them.

regards,

Carlos

Merry Christmas Steve and Carlos and all the rest of you in our little group here!!

Carlos - I'm waiting for you to get your little Christmas present that Steve sent to you - the monoblock amplifiers - and see what the results are on your new speakers. 😀 😀 😀

With a set of PA speakers like those - along with 100 watts of power - you are for sure going to be able to let all of your neighbors enjoy what you are playing too!! :clown: And it's gonna sound sweeeeet! 😎

But i have the amplifier assembled, and i am still enjoying it very much

I am playing it into an acoustic suspension speaker, the one in front of me..behind the computer big enclosure..others will need to be ballanced... i am waiting a flat microphone, or something with previously knew audio response graphic to adjust... the speaker used is small but very ballanced..a sealed box. this one seems to be the most linear unit i have at home.

The sound is pleasant.... i do not feel tired to listen..it can play all day and nigth long and do not bother me.

Well...i do not use more than 500 miliwatts of power normally.

regards,

Carlos

Yeah.... i see that...unfortunattelly it is this way

Well... we cannot make Greeks and Troyans happy at same time.

I am buying a RCA speaker, and this one brings the curve, so, it is almost flat.... so hardly unflat then all speakers...but reasonable.

Also they do not know we can perceive differences in quality even using not perfect transducers...well..no one is really perfect...just watch curves and you will see that.

No problem...i will continue doing a good work, pleasant to me, will be sharing good things gladly and they can consume themselves with the hell envy.

ahahahahah.

.........................................................................................................

Modules from Thomas Jennings and Steve Dunlap have not arrived.

Also Leader Oscilloscope

also Protobard (breadboard)

And the parts from Sean. (top line of op amps and power transistors)

I think they will arrive first days of January.

Hello,

To Jkeny, I am not negative. I am just saying PA speakers and HiFi speakers are different in design and goals. Each one can make his choice, but most go with HiFi. This difference is much more pronounced than between PA amps and HiFi amps. And a speaker contributes a lot more to the sound than the amp itself.
Dx speakers are probably nice, I don t know them so I won t criticize them!

Merry christmas!

Never mind and be happy folks, not extraordinary had happened

So relax and enjoy your day.

It will be so long to explain about speaker differences and brain evaluation that i turn myself tired before to explain.

My dear friend.... something strange with your words... letters are in wrong position..when we have the first and last letter correct, our brain can understand... as you are keeping the first and last words correct we can understand your code.

You see... brain does the same to vision, as movie are not something that moves.... also with understanding..we use to fill the logical gaps..also with MP3 audio.... we fix the whole thing..also with non perfect speakers..your brain equalizes.

Smell is another department..also engaged to brain...but connected to emotions, feelings... also our sexual life is commanded by smell (feromônios in my language).

We cannot simplify too much our audition..we are not computers..we have better central processing..wich is the brain.

The speaker showed into the second youtube video down here... the owner have never perceived it was defective.... when music is playing, subtile noises are hard to perceive if your ear + brain was not educated/trained to that.

Well folks...i am listening Dunlap amplifier...what about you guys?

regards,

Carlos
