Krell KSA 50 PCB

Hi guys

Slow progress at the moment I'm afraid. I'm working six long days a week, and having to do major work on my house as well. If you're all happy with going what I have at the moment, rather than me trying to optimise things a little more, then I can probably get the stuff finalised for production by Friday evening. What do you all think?

Brian is just helping with sourcing PCBs and he is also generously hosting the ordering page.

Mark will be organising the buy, and when I send him some content, (sorry Mark, I will get round to it!), he will be editing/maintaining the site.

So all that side will be well looked after, it's just me you all have to worry about! 🙂

Ok, we have a Final Version!

It's been sitting at 300mV bias for an hour, DC offset is totally steady at 0mV, and the square wave looks a lot better. I have swapped the outputs to MJ1302/3281 because they sound and measure a lot better.

As for the sound - Wow... It's solid, clear and with loads of definition. This is a great amp!

I'll get on with sorting out the PCBs, schematics and BOM over the next few days so Mark can start moving ahead with the group buy.

I just love this enthousiasm !

Well, when it's taken this long to get it working the way I want it's nice that I finally have some decent results 🙂

Oh, and hope you guys appreciate this, I was supposed to be plastering a ceiling today! 🙂

One minor issue is that I have a little turn on thump. Do you folks that have working versions have the same problem?

Al, your signal generator have too short rise time. If you can, try get at output HF filter with band wide cca 1 MHz, you get probably much more stabil signal. Is not neccessary measure amp with square signal, which have nsec rise time 😉 . And Krell : have you try get there lower compensation ?

Nope, something mustn't be right somewhere...... if there's anything with this amp that is amazing is you can plug it in/out without any noise whatsoever, not even a pop or a thump or anything!!! i was amazed by that!!
P.S. What caps did you end up using to get the wave to look like that?

Aaron

P.P.S. it's not how it measures, it's how it sounds!!! 😛 Aparantly when the bias is cranked right up it sounds better again!

I'm finally back after a trip to Colorado last week and a trip to Idaho this week... I certainly won't complain about that though....

My KSA does not have any noise what so ever at turn on or at turn off. Do you have all the correct size electrolytic caps on the board? Too large of caps in C-110,111 might cause a turn off thump....
