Do we have to use Dale?
Perhaps they have the same values but different brand?
Yes, I don't care if you go with whats available... (sorry for not suggesting a source) but just letting you know, if you decide to go another brand, I am sure the gang will be ok with it.
Same here, the 820ohm resistor and the wirewound 0,68ohm should be easy to find but the 25ohm resistor.... thats something else. An odd value?True, I don't care if you go with whats available

Proably the same reason you need 20 amps...
But that said, it was an auction not a store... he had only one... I'd rather have 28 amps than 15 amps... it will only consume what I throw at it....right? Not sure I got the question Terry,
Hi K,
Sorry if that come out wrong. I just meant that no Amp that I know of needs 20 amps to operate. The only reason I got 20 is because that is what it had and I got a good deal on it through ebay. The more amps, the bigger the explosion.

Blessings, Terry

Owning a variac is a very good thing IMO.

Same here Terry 🙂 I think it was worth it. A larger Toroid usually has better regulation for a given current draw so I am not complaining.
cheers!

I have a 3.15A variac. New price is about 625US$ (230V version)
US$75 is not a good deal for a 20A veriac, it's a GREAT deal

Maybe... do you know anyone who needs a SMPS designer?
Oh yes, and Janni would also want a job..... any firms with Danish relations arround there 😀

Sorry Stuart if you object to this...

Troy,
I have no clue if they fit in the relevant places or not, but I easily have 300 of the same resistors I've been giving away over the last year or so.
Let me know if you want them for the kits.
Stuart

Stuart-
Yes please. I can paypal you the money for them and the shipping.
I know you, and before you say anything, the buyers have already paid for them... So please accept the cash..
Deal?
Troy

I got some of the ones he has given away. The leads are tight, but I sanded them down a bit and they fit. I will have alot of sanding o do....

Oh Puhleeeze Troy, Don't be sanding anything. The guys can do it... you are not paid to sand... heck you are not paid period.
I have the 0.68's so for my kits, feel free to leave them out if you are short on those.

Which of the three resistors did you get ahold of?

Don't bother yourself with that, you have to put SOME restrictions on yourself. I don't know about the others but I can do my own sandingThe leads are tight, but I sanded them down a bit and they fit. I will have alot of sanding o do....

Troy,
You have already spent waaay more time than would ever have been expected on this. I, for one, have no problem sanding leads.

Right, I will be checking with all the members of this parts GB. if I find any that have received resistors that have had the leads abraded in any way, then Troy will be serving a day in the sinbin for each instance, and I will send someone around to give him a good spanking.
On second thoughts, ignore the last part, just in case...

Stuart has a stash of .68 5 watters he will sell us cheap.
We still need the 1/4 watt 820's and 2 (two) watt 25 Ohmers.

I wonder if when he bought them by the pounds that he knew he would benefit so many Diy'ers 🙂

I wish I could claim such prescience...
Truth be told, I was being cheap. It worked out less expensive for me to buy the 2000+ resistors the guy on ebay was offering than it was to buy the 2-300 I estimated I needed...
At the time I had no clue they were 'good' examples of the breed, that was a pleasent surprise.
Either way I'm very glad it worked out so well.
BTW, from my experience you can use 27ohm resistors for the driver emitter resistors, with no issues at all...From a longevity perspective I think the wattage is probably more important than the exact value.

Good point, Stuart, I may well have used 27R on one of my prototypes, it slipped my mind...
BTW, how's the BIL's Aleph? I never heard from him again so I assume he's got it up and running! 🙂

who knows krell probably used 25ohms becuase perhaps they got a steady and cheap supply line ... ;-) And the 27 falls under the +/- 10% anyway.
Then there shouldn't be any more problems, if one could call them that. Minor setbacks works 🙂
Now we just have to make sure that Troy keeps his fingers to himself and don't start to sand all of them 😀
