gee - I missed that entirely. Google seems to be klamming-up with regards to K-related searches.
Hey - I like the idea of 10 inch driver Ks to get some semblance of impact in a small enclosure.
To be fair, K12 can work well with some 10" speakers plus the 2nd K12's 10 degree tilt would be a good start for an internally mounted K-tube. But it would be interesting to have a somewhat narrow HAK10 with option for the K-tube to go inside -or on top. Speakers like Delta10 a would
have good punch. Dayton's new 10 inch midbass might work (?). Dayton's PA310 tho extended in response sounds like its deep underwater compared to Eminence's Kappa12A/pym1298

I think I posted the info on either FRD.com or Gainclone shortly before they went down, so it got lost and I didn't keep anything. I can't find anything in the last snapshot on the Wayback Machine.

Here's something you might ind interesting. In my box of Christmas K-goodies from Pelanj were a pair of 3D printed Karlson front chambers for 3 inch speakers. They are among my prized possessions and very pretty.
There's 1 melamine sponge sliced diagonally to make two damping pads for the sides and a little piece at the chamber top. There is no back chamber yet its just sitting on a cluttered coffee table.
(BTW, I'm having trouble with REW setting the Y axis - it gets "too tall" so its easier for me to take screen shots)

I ended-up finding the K18 thing I mentioned above, while pursuing old threads on the Fullrangedriver.com archive. It was about KK Audio and nothing was really solved, as I believe I never heard back from the titular Kurt Koesler. I only had a reply from another employee who sort of confirmed a Karlson was once built, but never commercially and possibly gave me the link for the floating web page with the K info. Here is the forum exchange from back then. The KK Audio website does not exist anymore, they either went down or changed name.

Re: OT - Gainclone Karlson website
Freddyi, regarding the KK audio cabinet you have, how certain are you that this is actually "Ken Kessler"? I see he is a big name around the hi-fi world, but I'm reallly failing to find info on a company he'd have had at any point and would find such a product somewhat odd for this guy. There is still a company around called KK Audio in California, they seem to do some studio stuff now, but they history had them make all sorts of speakers, for live music, PA, stage, MI... The guy that started that back in the 70ies is Kurt Koesler. I did e-mail the company wanting to know if they were the ones behind the KK cabinet you have. I got a reply from a younger guy (who cc'ed Kurt Koesler on it) who said that Kurt once made such a cabinet, but that might have been a one-off thing and not a commercial product, not sure. I have yet to hear back from Mr. Koesler.

Re: OT - Gainclone Karlson website
hi IG - not sure who told me it was "Ken Kessler" - perhaps the seller whose email I've lost forever in an old earthlink acct. Thankfully one cabinet has a full label in small print - if my blurry eyes read it correctly it says (I'll re-read it later to double check)
KK AUDIO PRODUCTS, 7300 Fulton, North Hollywood CA 91605, (213) 765 3132 - can you track that down?
ah -- http://www.kkaudio.com/about.html - does look like my seller got Ken mixed up with Kurt - if lucky, we might get some info

Re: OT - Gainclone Karlson website
The address they have on the KK Audio website is:
12620 Raymer St. North Hollywood CA, 91605
My guess is it's the same cie and they just moved a few blocks - Google Maps shows me the two addresses are a mile appart.

They made the little 15" X15 size K. Here's a note I posted at Talk Bass regarding a cabinet with Leland Sklar's name stenciled on it
I wasn't aware of a K18.

I can't turn up a sitemap for the archived KK Audio website and would otherwise have to know the exact address of the Karlson page, assuming it was saved at all. I'm fairly sure it was an 18" enclosure.
That high Qt 8" ceiling fullrange I tried in TK6 ended up having voice coil rub, I just did not hear it at low listening levels initially, but it distorts badly when driven a bit more. I may be able to get another one, I'll see. I could try a microfiber cloth over the port panel and aperture grille cloth. That might make it decent enough to play in my shop.

Here's some potential 10s for a K10. That GRS PT10 (introductory price ~$30) is made really well like a Dayton PA310. Inflation is really rough on Delta 10a and B102 prices. PT10 has a lot of overhang - might be fun with an inexpensive compression driver and K-tube.
Hey IG -on the bottom end of K-tube response, have you tried a cardboard baffle at the CD's exit plane to see and hear effects?

Regarding K-tube baffle, the way I made the base plate for my new 7.5 K-tubes, I'll be able to mount it on a larger baffle, which I do intend to try, especially if I run BMS 4550 on them since it can go fairly low and the tubes are long. I'll see how much I can get away with.
Lets say we want a "K5". Is the best bet for a smooth response a distributive vent?
my scrap K5 had roughly a one inch square vent at the top.
This little size could be fun for a mini 2.1 setup or with reduced back chamber volume, a K5MR ("midrange")

Hi Freddi!"This" would make sense (?)
I will start building my XKi for the W5-2143 drivers that have just arrived. Do you think a stub will smooth the W peak frequency response, or any improvements at all?
I saw your post on the XKi thread, but I did not find yet any XKi building with the stub and the advantages of using it.
a stub could address a cavity peak - not sure how it would affect the "W". If you have a measurement system it would be interesting to try NEXO's approach with a V notched shelf vent. The back panel and vent would have to be removable for adjustments.
If X has shown reasonably smooth graphs then I'd not worry

I'm not certain the vent holes could "cover enough ground" to truly be considered distributed assuming a 0.63x K8. Maybe on a HAK5 of sorts. It did measure better on my TK6, but I did not give it much listening time, but I may yet get around to it.
regarding a trap for the 330Hz peak, do oyou think just one 1.5" ID x 10.25" schedule 40 pvc tube placed in the rear chamber can do any good ? - might be able to fit that trap.
Placed in the rear chamber would be fine, as long as the opening somehow couples to the front chamber volume, which is where this resonance occurs.
