JLE TPA3255 Build and Modifications

Based on my comparisons with different Sylph-D200 builds, I think bypassing the 100ohms + 100pF RC filter after the input coupling caps results to a "fuller" sound. It is really noticeable specially in the bass and mids.

Also it is a very easy mod, just remove all the parts and put a solder blob in place of 100 ohms.

Attached pic of the removal of 100R + 100pF RC filter. (1)
No caps on C11 and C16 (2)
100nF cap on VBG C19 (3)

If these mods are made, the sound will be very full and balanced even if OPA1656 is used and PFFB is enabled.

TICore260BTL equivalent mods

Remove 100R + 100pF RC Filter (solder blob on R1, R2, R3, R4, then remove caps beside them)
Change C17 to 100nF (0603 or 0805 16V or higher)

Solder blob on RA6, RA7
Solder blob on R8 and R10 (for V1A and V1B)

Can you take care of these mods if we wanted to buy one of these Sylph units Lester?

Thanks, Pete

Yes, shipments next week onwards will have those RC filters removed.

Attached PDF with latest and simplified mods (only the most important are included).

Modules shipped on September onwards already have some of the mods.

Lester, my board is TICore260BTL PFFB V1.
So is this set of mod instructions applicable for my board?
I wish to say that currently i am very very happy with this amp.
Doing this modification will require removal of heatsink. But you sound like this is a worthy mod, which i am tempted to do.

Yes it is definitely a worthy mod. If you are running it with PFFB enabled, you may want to change the PFFB values as well if you can solder 0603 SMTs.

Best regards,
Lester

A suggestion. If Sylph-D200 offers a version that's fully finished, you might get increased business. I would say don't charge more than $40 or $50 extra for it. I don't know if this makes business sense, but there are certainly many people out there who just want a nice performing amp without all the DIYs.

I would say Lester would have to charge a LOT more than 40 to 50 extra. Cost of chassis, IEC, switching, connectors, time and labour costs. Oh and I forget the small element of a power supply. Plus possible certification for electrical safety requirements?
And indeed this is DIYAUDIO!
Plenty of cheap and cheerful boxed up 3255 amps from.China. Lester's amps are far superior.

And, shipping costs would be rather pricey...however, notakosan's comment had merit. It is a DIY forum but should always be open to suggestions. I'm just sayin'.

Thanks for the suggestion but it's not possible for the moment due to major hurdles like parts availability and shipping cost.

Hello,
i would know if anyone has tryed other output capacitor than stock on Sylph D-200 and decoupling too.
You can get bigger dimension caps if you use 680nF value. Bigger poly caps generally do have better parameters.
10uH + 0.68uF will also have a flatter response on 8 ohms load. But osc. freq residual will be higher so you need to increase the osc. freq. to 600kHz

For input coupling cap, I find the Elna Silmic II 10uF 35V the cleanest sounding (among 10uF Elna Silmic II electros)
