I've been here for 20 years. Yikes!

Of course it has changed greatly. 20 years ago, questions got simple answers. If you asked what connector to buy, you just got a recommendation on brand, no lecture on science or pseudoscience or audiophoolery, just a straight up answer (it appears even cynics like Neutrik 😀 ). To me, it didn't appear that anyone was consciously chasing nostalgia, it was a mainstream hobby of technically minded people.
Now it is altogether different. IMHO the cable sellers won the battle.
I also have that impression. Some of the earlier members here that were hardcore tech guys got older, dropped out or just died off. That's life I guess.
I have the impression that over the years members generally became more interested in just building but not really wanted to understand.
I've seen a post where the OP says: "tell me which cap to use as input coupling cap and please spare me all the scientific/tech babble. Just tell me which.".

For me that's just using the hobby to pass the time and stay as dumb as you were when born. I've always operated on the adage: "Give a man a fish and he has a good meal; teach him how to fish and he eats for the rest of his life".
Which probably makes me a cranky old fart.

Interest in Sound was replaced by interest in video/CGI

This is real time CPU generated music and visual - and was state of the art in 1993

30 years later Look how far we come in terms of video/CGI.

Sound/music?

Just had a look at my profile. Almost 20 years. Yikes!
I have to say it has consumed me a lot of time, and I posed a lot of questions to other, more knowledgeable members (hint: NP and ZM), so I also consumed their precious time, but I don't regret it. 😀
It was, and still is, a lot of fun 🙂
Cheers!

Next October it will be 20 years for me.
Same for me. Seems strange to be on a forum for so long. And the number of posts I have, yikes!
But perhaps not so strange - my email address, eBay and Amazon accounts are older than that, and older than most of the people I work with.

@vdi_nenna is certainly the oldest active member. I think I sent him a congratulations about 10 years ago. 😀
