Xo by ear. Coax enclosure about 70L. I may open a seperate thread to help improve the config. Here are couple of photos of the speaker build. I got distracted with other things and left them unfinished. Only recently decided to get back to them after few years.
Going to order the Faitals just for fun anyway (the woofers currently too cheap with local supplier to pass up). Will swap the 12” coaxial with ph-4220 90x40’ horn paired with Faital hf108r. I’ll likely ask for help to optimise the setup!

What do you guys think about the new 1.4" Celestion cdx14-3040? Looks like it could do both decent midrange and top octave?
1.4-inch exit neodymium magnet compression driver

Impressive, massive towers!
You'll need to measure these in order to optimize the crossovers of the coaxials and to acoustically blend the coaxials with the woofers.

It's not surprising AE got extra orders and since it's a small company, delivery time will increase.
I found a thread again that might interest you. It's french > use translate.

This is inspiring, not sure if such wide driver spacing is acceptable or just a sacrifice in this case. I thought the time was for two speakers to perform as one, c-t-c spacing must not exceeed the width of highest frequency produced. At say a 700hz cover doesn’t seem to make mtm pref for such large drivers
Too much is put into driver spacing at times. Sometimes a narrow primary lobe looks OK beside a narrow horn response. Sometimes the crossover is used to make adjustments.

True and true.
Still, C-T-C was the primary and beaming the seconday reason for the french guy to exchange the JMLC for Jacques Le Dauphin Horns.
Since Altec is part of the discussion, I would like to squeeze one Altec 2-way in.
It's the least striking 2-way on the image below.

This is the archetypal big 2-way that could satisfy many music lovers that have grown tired of MOR audiofool high-end meuk (Dutch word for junk).

BTW, this post wears the 'magic number' 😉
I cant wait for the 1440. Faital make some of the sweetest sounding Comp HF drivers🙂
Interior, without 902 compression driver.
Not bad, after 40 years of use.
This guy bought the pair A8s shown on the images, replaced the compression drivers and upgraded the XO.
A simple, entry-level diy-project with respect for the heritage these speakers represent.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Ratcheting it up a notch or three 😉: Meeting minutes

If you take the Altec A8 concept, use most of its parts and build a custom cabinet, you'll end up with this:

- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Multi-Way
- Is it possible to cover the whole spectrum, high SPL, low distortion with a 2-way?
