Lol at both comments regarding The bass in the Drakes Upset....that is exactly why it is one of the best reference songs to judge bass vs midrange performance....it is one of the lowest 808 notes (just above or right at 30hz) I've come across in a modern rap song, in particular, one with tons of radio play.
Either your system can handle it...or not.

I would say that my speakers can handle this song definitely better than my room with walls and doors making a lot of noise.

I guess that tune is not even very susceptible to gargling. I guess there was a lot of IMD when I tested it but it is not very perceivable at all.
But it reminded me of the fact that 4x15" would be cooler than 2x15". 😉

Full disclosure, I do not listen at loud volumes at all.
Currently feeling pretty lazy about my speakering these days so I'm afraid no measurements. No doubt I'll have a bunch of resonances as my "enclosures" are a bodged together affair. Fun though!
Any suggestions about stuffing for a 15" that might reach up into 300hz-800hz range?

Thanks Camplo,
I was hoping to get something from my local hardware store but they don't describe most of their stock in terms of density which makes choosing one annoying.

I will download an SPL app and make a measurement tomorrow. I don't know how accurate these are however.

Thanks Charles,
I've never actually tried to measure part of a song before? I'll have a look tomorrow if time permits.

If it's a sealed cabinet go to Bunnings and get some Knauf Earthwool fibreglass insulation, anything designed for walls. The cheapest low density stuff works fine.Any suggestions about stuffing for a 15" that might reach up into 300hz-800hz range?
You don't have to measure the song, set the volume up at the level you are listening and then use REW's RTA function to play pink noise and see what the level is. If it is a UMIK then the level is calibrated as well, if not then you will need some other way to calibrate the level like a cheap SPL meter or a phone app. iphone apps can be quite accurate as the mic capsules used in them are the same across many devices. Thanks Charles,

Thanks fluid, yes it's sealed, there are so many insulation options on the Bunnings site it's overwhelming, I'll have a look locally and see what they've got.
I'll have a play with REW and my UMIK today. REW is something I've still got to sit down and work on.

Look for the R2.0 or 2.5 This one is cheap and won't leave a huge amount left over

I would like to try Wavecor SW223BD and BlieSMa T34B/Satori TW29BNWG-4 with a cauer/elliptic crossover crossing about 1300~1500Hz.
It might be able to down to 30 with some room gain but the sensitivity of the system will be extremely low.

Played about with REW and the RTA function, very interesting, looks like I usually listen at about 75-80db.
Also had a look at that Drake track and saw much the same as fluid showed in his graph, big peak at 35hz.

I think thats a decent listening volume....in the context of this threads design, I was aiming for the same acceptable performance at max volume...no different intentions than SQ quality being attached to dynamic potential in any other way...this is the OCD approach of a less experienced designer (Me)... that and I have an idea that the higher the dynamic potential the more revealing the system is...

- Is it possible to cover the whole spectrum, high SPL, low distortion with a 2-way?
