ok being serious for a moment now...
i was having fun amusing myself un-defacing your design!
if you do deciede to add a face.. why not make it on a removable grill
that way if you chose to de-face him .. you can just remove the grill
he may also do better with a more "foward" gaze..
i like the punk concept.. but why not make the horns expanding towards the front, like animals have, or with size steps equal to organ pipe size changes.
ps i dunno what the double soundwave spiral thing is about, im sure that if in realaty you made to speaker horns in this way they would be directly out of phase.. who knows maybe not..🙄

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

atually the shape of that top cabinet resembles the shape of a human ear quite nicely, i just found that a interesting coincidence, so i thought i would point it out
these definatly are a musical design, i look at them and i see harps and violins drawn on them
oh and you should probubly give him an open mouth, then the speaker really will be singing nicely..

or how about a spring on the section that holds the top box, then when you turn up the volume he will start bopping his head back and forth too the music!, like those dog things you get in cars
I have done various iterations to get to here... It was when I put the arms on the stand to better support the top speaker that I realised that I had inadvertently created a design similar to the ugly CD rack and had a great laugh since I hate it so much.
This version was called the "Jelly Bean" but I want something less symetrical so I started thinking about a question mark ? / face, so this version is called QMII
The other pic was just a couple of early thoughts.
Also solved my port problem... I will incorporate the port into his neck, which will also carry the wires and form part of the stand.

That first design is probably the koolest and most original speaker I have ever seen. GJ!! I want a pair!!! and the second picture has some kool ideas. If you build the the one in the middle you better choose a beauty of a woofer for that infinite!!!

I may still go with the arms and legs like that... once I have the head done the body will be done to suit.
Just playing in paint with the neck a bit more...
With the tweeter off to one side and the mids off to the other kind of has a Picasso feel to it.

Hi Silent Screamer,
If you ever sketch up a few 3-way cabinets using your RAAL ribbon a shape like the Avalon Isis might be worth consideration. Olson's early research into cabinet diffraction motivated speaker companies like Avalon to evolve a version of the truncated pyramid on parallelopiped baffle shape. Reduces diffraction, looks sexy(abstract Chess Bishop), easier to build than a sphere. The Isis uses a very expensive 7" midrange, but there are modest cost 6.5"-8" midranges with 94-96 db/watt efficiency that can approach the RAAL efficiency without beaming at the 1,600Hz RAAL Xover.

It would be cool if you made the head swivel up and down a few degrees. I like the second pic the most.
Take a look at my design, only took me 4 months and careful planning, the tweeter is angled downwards mainly because they are just over 6 ft so weather you are stood or sat you get the sweet spot as the whole head tilts too, I've just finished the build, and now just need cosmetics, it's certainly true though, a speaker shouldn't just look good it needs to sound as good as it looks if not better.
My inspiration came from the focal utopia and Wilson watt puppy

Hi All
Hers my drawing of an active 4way I wanted to build and here is it now .
Don't know how it will sound but we'll see when its finished . The cabinet will be painted when finished .

Wow! that's awesome! They look great already and stayed true to the design!
I like how this little thread is slowly snow balling into something very unique with all of these original designs. Great work guys!
Audio freeeeeek- did you post a picture? I don't see one...

I was thinking I could possibly raise the back of the stand if I needed a bit of tilt. I was originally planning on tilting between the head and the neck but incorporating the port makes that a lot more difficult. I also think from a support perspective there are better places to try do that.
The main back stand is probably a better place to achieve some tilt, because the stand will be made with several layers of interlocking MDF(think fingers from both hands interwoven) If I do it on the back bone I can have more overlap giving a much better grip.
Can't think of anything worse then his head dropping from lack of grip at the neck.

Funny you should say that because the Focal Utopia were also a source of inspiration to me too. I was originally looking to make seperate cavities for each of the drivers like this.
A bit of a cross between the Cremonas and the Utopia. Finally I decided on a fixed curve as a compromise.

Those look great, obviously you know your stuff👍
The illusion is complete 🙂
The box is the easy part, the magic is in knowing what makes good sound. I am trying to apply what I've learned, but have a way to go.
What I would really like to do is make some dalek speakers (big Dr Who fan) but the shape would have to be too distorted and too compromised to work properly.I have an idea how I could make it work but perhaps that could be a future project...
