Input buffer for LuDEF, SissySIT and similar amplifiers

Yes, but maybe you should assemble PCB as designed to have comparative choice. On the other hand, it will cut assembly time considerably. 🙂
Everything inside red encircled zone on attached schematic doesn’t need to be installed if other input buffer will be used.
Thank you, Tombo. As a novice, I've learned it's better to ask and check than assume. It might also help to have these questions answered for future novice builders, too.

I have the components, so I'll install them in the LuDef as designed by Zen Mod.

I get it now- JP101 installed and it's the LuDef as designed. If I remove JP101 and connect your buffer to JP101 X and GND the LuDef buffer is bypassed, even though the components are installed. I like having choices.

It looks to me that those reasons had more to do with asthetics if not inexperience. C5 node needs to go between the input pin and the input jack. Decoupling caps need to trade places with feedback resistors, keeping ther traces short is the priority. If you have a seperate gnd plane but didnt vias stitch it to the top plane then the whole thing is a disaster only held back by the miraculous loop gain of the ics and possibly the 33pf stabilizer cap. Your layout will end up very different if you start looking at trace capacitance.

Ill stop commenting here. Bye

You rather assume than read even few sentences of PCB description. Looking back, your first question seems dishonest, as you know the basics on voltage regulators. It was just “entry” or false flag for you continuing with claims on better sound with no ground close to opamp input pins and “sharing ideas”.

I have strong allergic reaction on such approach.
I tend to keep discussion on topic (+some humor is always welcome) and, again, design practices are not on topic.

Pass Labs forum section keeps thread content and discussion quality far above some other sections where flaming wars and boundary but persistent trolls ruin whole threads. This whole exchange between you and me didn’t improve this thread.

Thanks Tombo and Wg 🙂
My “Buffed Up” M2 clone has been playing all day and I got a chance to listen to a few of my “go to” songs. I’m not a person to throw out “audiophile” phrases and cliché because it really means nothing to anyone but me. But, I can say my parts stash will get a nice matched quad of Toshiba JFET’s added…. They will not go back in the M2 clone. Nice work Tombo! 👍

Wg45,
I will eventually be building the SissySIT which has a very similar on board buffer as LuDEF, your questions have helped plan my future moves 😉

Cheers!!

Vunce, I'm happy to hear you like Tombo's buffer. I'm looking forward to finishing the LuDef build and trying it with and without.

Tombo has been great answering my questions with detailed answers. I think there will be more interest from the SissySit and LuDef builders when they see how easy it is to add.

Hello tombo,

I've got some nice pcbs today. Thanks a lot! I will not be able to finish it the next 30 minutes.
Too much on schedule.
Cheers
Dirk 🙂

Hello out there,

I will definitively not win the Guinness - World - Record!
I would say: slow and continually...
And I forgot to order some parts. Hmmm!
Cheers
Dirk

We have another major problem in this forum section. Too many tempting amplifier and FE designs available. 🙂

I feel like Buridan’s donkey unable to pick among, not only two tasty meals, but incredible number of excellent designs. Proper solution is, “build them all”. Seems that some guys here are on the right path (Vunce first coming to mind).

Blame Pa

I did found my reworked M2 base extremely useful to investigate various OS parts and their behavior, to see what is outcome ( and I like it in all cases; cases I didn't like, I didn't publish)

now, same all same all, next phase is P series, with active FE and introduced NFB, where I'm investigating lesser amount of character got from FE with same number of OS variations

they all are more detailed than autoformer based counter-specimens, but what's most important not having lesser foot-tapping effect

beat me, I could use any of them as my sole final amp to live happily ever after ....... but I'm doomed - listening the Music all the time ( who cares with which amp when every one is good enough) while dreaming and soldering new one
