That is not a adequate way to compare is it? Also: it needs some time to break in.Sound impression was based on only one song after which we had no time to further evaluate. The unit never played a single song in stock form.
This is a song I know very well and I use it to evaluate male voice, bass Slam, spacial clues and dynamic.
My point was, if it in this form sounds better than my modyfied TPA3255 than we got a winner here.
I will try a few 330uf Oscons and a separate PVDD supply.

My experience was that I thought the TPA3255 sounded better than the SMSL amp that I have. But it depends on how the TPA3255 (as well as how the MA12070) is implemented. Mine has an excellent layout and premium CoilCraft SER inductors. In general, I thought the clarity and bass authority of the TPA was better.

I have the sabaj A20A and the infineon evaluation cards.
And I prefer the sound (compared to TPA) tested with musician friends.
The sound is very analog, with warmth.
These chips heat up very little despite their tiny sizes...
This is my feeling....
I don't think about DIY anymore...time spent ects.
the latest SABAJ Sabaj A20a v.2022 ...
Seriously tempts me, but being wired in XLR ....
I will have to buy 2 of them.
These chips don't seem to like asymmetric signals.
I rewired everything in xlr ... And it was a slap! 🙂🙂🙂
Thanks X,
I agree, layout is key.
I am aware that my approach with skipping the analog stage on the dac as well as on the amp side creates an impedance missmatch. It could cause a sonic hit on one amp more than on another. I did this for so long that I not even compare it to a proper analog stage anymore. In the past I always had better sonics doing it that way, but I should not take it as a given.
I will get back to do a proper comparsion in the near future.
At the moment I play with that little DDX amp in the pic from the Hotel room. I is from Hifimediy. USB-ddc, dac, amp in one that is shocking good. No kidding.

Hi Patrick, Many thanks for your generous offer: very keen to take you up on it. Please can you send me a PM.Richard,
Sorry for the late reply, was travelling and just got back. Happy to share the schematics and layout. I drew everything on EasyEda and have attached a backup file which you will need EasyEda to open again. There is readme file with some cryptic instructions on how to do it. I did this quickly and I'm sure there is a better way of doing this. Let me know if you have issues with opening the file.
I've also got a few spare PCB's that I'm happy to post out at no cost in exchange for a contribution to DIY Audio. One PCB is good for a stereo analog or digital, although I've only assembled it for digital.
Patrick

Thanks for the tip on the Sabaj A20A. Looks like a nice implementation. Balanced input is nice feature to have.Hi XRK!

Perfectly agree, the Sabaj A20a is excellent and above all very musical.
I have one and I put aside my others TPA3255. (Ok these are not the best implementations)
The €23 amps from Ali arrived Yesterday. That was verry quick
They are definitly from a Storehouse in Europe.
They have the smalest filter coild I have ever seen in this application. I skipped the active stage as with the now tosted Ayima (never short the input).
This time I'm driving them with 24v 40ah lead acid batteries. In the past I I had mixed results with batteries. While sounding very clean I missed attack and dynamics. With this sucker it's a winner. Best sound I have ever had in my livingroom.
I got 4 hours on the unit and still the Tpa3255 can not compete. The Shiu Yuan TPA3255 bords are afaik the best sounding China bords out there. I skipped the analog stage on them and feed them with a 36V 16A linear supply. The MA12070 is the new King and it deserves a top layout. X where are you?
Klaus

Can you sketch on the board what was done?I skipped the active stage
Thanks.
Hi, jean paul
It was stupiditly related. After all those years in this hobby I forgot to disconnect the power supply. The balanced out of the dac is PNNP while on the amp it is PNPN. I wanted to change the leads and a yello flame arose from the chip. R.I.P. I think it might have been the disconnect leads that killed the amp not a short.
The Ayima was dead silent without the ground connected to the dac while the BrzHifi emmits a strong static noise without the ground connected.
It amazes me that this cheep version with those tiny chokes sounds as good as the Ayima.

Look at my pics from the Ayima it is basically the same on the BrzHifi. Can you sketch on the board what was done?
Thanks.
You can clearly see four ceramic caps whoms traces go towarts the chip. Use a fine solid core copper wire to tap these caps on the chip side. I removed the two opamps to prevent interference from them.
The opamps don't cause any interference (?!?!?) in the BRZHIFI, they make the unbalanced signal balanced....a requirement to have a silent MA12070. The chip has balanced inputs and works best when driven balanced, simple.
Maybe you remove too much....

Ah I see you meant it differently. Still, having a DAC directly coupled to the balanced inputs of an "open" amplifier is not for the faint hearted. The smell of burned woofers in the morning 🙂 One of the simple things that one knows will happen, just not when exactly. Also sensitive to power on/off sequence so high risk area.
