I think we can buy a LiFePO4 module containing batteries from Taobao and then make a power supply by youself. It can ask for 3.3V or 12V. It has built-in protection and even short-circuit protection which Ian's board doesn't has this fuction. When the LiFePO4 module is low power, you can connect it to the DC of the relative voltage. The battery indicator is also very easy to buy.
Such as photos, such a battery module is only about 21 US dollars.
Those who know a little can also use the relay module to form a more complete charging and discharging architecture.

Dont want to rain on your parade, but a few issues here.
I don't know about others, but I don't know how to buy from Taobao since I don't speak Chinese. And while built in and short protections seems like a good think, they may mess up sound quality. Finally, shipping lithium batteries has restrictions, not sure if they can ship them to the US.
... you have also not guarantee about genuine parts, so don't buy your extinguisher on Tobao as well.
The NDK's are better value.

Safety is always the most important thing. You never want to get better sound quality, but in the end, in order to extinguish the fire, put a lot of water on the audio equipment?
If you are not interested in buying from Taobao, you can easily find a lot of reasons. If you are really interested in buying from Taobao, you can easily find a lot of means. For example, if you don't know Chinese and don't know how to handle transportation, you can find a purchasing company, for example tiptrans, to help you complete the shopping. As far as I am concerned, I don't understand Japanese at all. Many Japanese companies don't directly send goods to overseas, but I can understand photos and I also know how to use google translation that I can understand the meaning of the product description, and then it makes me often successfully shop on the Japanese website by purchasing companies.

The product I mentioned, which sells more than hundreds of thousands of units per year, is used in a variety of motorcycle or car battery applications and is a mature product that has been tested for a long time by many user. Safety has been confirmed by at least the test of time so that its security has been verified.
On safety, been using lifepo4's for years, but you do need to know what you're doing with them. But you need to do what is right for you in this regard.
As for sound, I didn't say it would destroy sound quality, I said it "may mess up sound quality". IMHO, the reason that lifepo4's sound good is a very low output impedance, it has 6 milliohm internal impedance per the data sheet. And their output impedance seems to stay low at higher frequencies. It can also supply a ton on instantaneous current, your safety concern but also I think a reason for their sound quality. You are adding something into the path, so it "may mess up sound quality". Only way to know is to try with and without.
They are also suspiciously cheap for new a123 batteries.
I've said my piece now, if you buy and try them, let us know how it turns out.

Is it possible to modify the non isolated power supply on the battery board so it is always on?
This would be very helpfull for running distributions like Moode/volumio without the risk that the power supply is stopped on low battery and corrupting the sd card.

I'm not sure about Volumio, but Moode definitely does.
The developer has stated repeatedly there is no risk of corruption from loss of power, except in the event it occurred during a write cycle such as applying a system update, or making changes to the config file.
In his testing over years' time the developer has intentionally pulled the plug countless times with zero consequence, and so have I, it doesn't affect Moode at all and I'm inclined to think Volumio is the same.
So the only real concern there would be to ensure a good battery charge before engaging in a software update, or making changes to the config file, both of which involve writes that could corrupt the system if interrupted by a loss of power.
I have had several corrupted sd cards with Moode and Volumio in the past. I am not sure if it was writing during shutdown due to a manually executed process like updating the library though. What I have noticed is that Moode will remember your playlist after a proper shutdown, so it does store data in this case (maybe only when manually shut down, I do not know).
Another advantage of keeping the rpi on at all times is that you can than use it to switch the battery power on and off with a headless control.
Picore player is advocating that it runs completely from ram memory so you can always pull the plug without any trouble. I have not heard this from Moode and Volumio.

Ahh, perhaps I've not had that issue because I use Moode as a UPnP renderer, so the library and playlists exist on the JRiver server side. I can see where using Moode in local playback mode could be different.
That said, Tim Curtis has stated repeatedly that there is no risk of corruption when pulling the power cord on Moode, no orderly shutdown is required and he didn't qualify that by saying "only in renderer mode", so I didn't think it would apply to local playback either, however an orderly shutdown is always preferable wherever possible.
