Wavebourn dont be too haste, Mbeki and the moderates are out of goverment, now soon those radicals educated in Moscow are going into goverment. Electricity shortage crisis wasnt due to economic growth but due to mismanagement of resources as planned future increases in capacity by Evkom by building new nuclear reactors and conventional coal powerplants was shelved by the fairly new goverment in 1996. More than ten years later doing nothing in this respect and they suddenly wake up and this only when the lights suddenly went out, we have a problem.![]()
Drive through joburg centre, my last time was in 1995, fresh out of Wits U, now only if I have a trusted R4 friend with me. 😉
Sorry guys for our OT. Hopefully we will soon get some schematics from Steve to give us a pleasant topic of discussion and the reason we are here, AUDIO.
Coul'nt resist....I'm an ex SA joburger too....larochele, turfontein was my beat, went to Forest High School.
Left in '75 after my first year at Witwatersrand University.
No violence then...if you miss it now, imagine how i missed it then...still do.
...sorry Carlos, not trying to mess up your very nice thread with these old time stories.
😉
I have empathy with some social comments into the thread
I like those things.... we just cannot let it go too long, for instance, more than 6 posts...then i have to came back to the topic.... and i use to do that from time to time... but really this do not bothers me...the opposite!
In the reality things going this way seems better.... when we wait some positive movements about the thread we go chating.
regards,
Carlos

..thanks for your understanding Carlos, matter is that i just found this thread and read it all from beginning to end, hence my out of wack reply.
Fact is i'm very curious at this find of yours and i really hope it picks up, as it seems to be, and we get something really nice to build. 😉
I really would like to listen to what got you so excited....

Greetings Ceevee, I lived in that area till 1992, untill forced to move because of crime. The rot started in centre of town and spread there. Eventually when I left in 2004 I was already living in the outermost suburbs of alberton to move away from crime spots, but eventually crime became rife there too and this was nearly 30 km out of city centre. Nowadays la rochelle and turfontein belong to gun and knife yielding child prostitutes and their nigerian drug lord masters. The banks will not even finance a house if you want to buy in that area. Needless to say that house prices there dropped to 1960 levels and the owners, mostly portuguese of that area left in mass and just abandoned their homes without prospect of being able to sell them.
Ceevee the thing I miss the most is that country s stunning natural beauty. That is why there are some places with names like **Gods window** which reflects to the beauty of the area.

You're missing something.
What?
ASKA ask if he was missing something. Since he designs and sells his own amps I felt he would figure this out on his own. This was to encourage him to take another look. I did give him a clue.
This is a DIY site. The threads I have read so far do not go into great detail about operational details of a design. I do not want people to get hung up on how the circuit works. It does work. It works very well. It is capable of low distortion very wide bandwidth, very low noise and low output impedance all with no feedback. It has low parts count and will work with an assortment of voltage gain stages.

it`s not much of a clue. On the other hand, maybe there`s not much to miss.
Perhaps you are right. I don't believe TV works because I don't completely understand RF.
The output will take a good nap...will take a rest till December
Well.... it is assembled.. and for sure will operate.
I hope some forum friend assemble following Dunlap instructions.
I will be studying.... each day i turn more intimate with this circuit.... it is not misterious anymore as it was yesterday...maybe in couple of days i will understand it entirelly.
Well... i am watching and thinking for hours long... even not beeing clever, everyone of us, studying, will understand.

Thank you Steve,
I will work it out. I'm sure it does work, and have faith in your assessment.

AKSA:
In case you missed it, the clue is the fluctuating current in the bias diode.
I don't want to give away everything without making you think about it first. I think you will figure it out.

I checked your latest schematic and I see you figured out how to adjust the offset. Good work.

Yes, I'd actually worked it out Steve, at 80uA, as bias current drops further with the engagement of the active driver, the drop across the diodes increases at the same rate as the Vbe across the outputs, thus widening the bias voltage with increasing output current.
This keeps on the inactive driver, and hence, output device, making this a non-switching output stage.
My concern is that this phenomena will be very sensitive to temperature, and indeed diode and output selection.
BUT, notwithstanding, this is the simplest means I've ever seen of ensuring no output turns off - a worthy feature. I have long pondered this issue, and with Phase Accurate devised a much more complex scheme to achieve the same thing, but it's untried, and has high component count. It is single ended, with a sliding current sink, and uses a CFP output configuration. I have always favoured single ended for its benign distortion spectrum.
I am saddened to hear of your condition. Accident? We are all seconds from this situation - I have a very powerful motorcycle and I'm always conscious of the dangers.
Cheers,
Hugh

AKSA:
Temperature sensitivity has not been an issue for this design. The choice of semiconductors does affect performance, however once you set up the circuit with one type it is a good idea to stay with that type. Still, the changes are quite minor.
My condition is a result of a degenerative bone disease which has claimed 7 of my vertebra in my neck and upper back. This along with 4 surgeries to repair/remove them has done considerable damage to my spinal cord. Other bones are going away also but they mainly just cause great pain.

Hi Carlos
alitle offtopic but how do you make pcb's like that , i will love to learn that 🙂

Mr. Dunlap-
First of all thank you for openly and enthusiastically sharing your circuit with the forum. It appeared to me that you did it without mental hesitation or reservation.
You also answered peoples questions in a civil manor. My hats off to you.
I am sorry to hear of the disease and I wish you nothing but the best.
Carlos-
I love your enthusiasm and passion. You are a joy to read here on the forum.

Do you own a shirt? Every picture has you half naked. 🙂

Troystg.... many folks have asked that
I do not use shirts inside home, only shorts, or bermuda style short pants (alike Australians)... weather is too much hot...we turn crazy wearing shirts here...we swet a lot, alike a drunk guy.
Environment temperature is around 31 degrées celsius... sun shines very strong, and during the morning the son hits and heats the building face... during afternoon this heat goes dissipating not only externally the buiding but also irradiates inside our homes... i have no air conditioned.
In my place, the hottest place into Brazil Northeast, you feel very unconfortable wearing shirts...people do not use that even outside home.... they use when have to go to work or when have to pick a bus or subway (because forced to wear something)...but normally people goes without shirt.... unfortunatelly girls do not use the same method!...
ahahahah!

I will try to explain you very fast Valo, as this will be off topic for this thread
Needing details, more details, come to my mail:
panzertoo@yahoo.com
First you take the schematic and watching it you produce a sketch using a piece of paper or trace lines with special pen directly into the board's copper side.
It is a very fast and simple method i use since the fifthies.
Put dots to remember you how many component leads will be soldered into your soldering spots.
this way.
