Reliability without Cement?

r6express:

Is this solution still working OK for you? I had thought of something similar, but was worried that perhaps the cement was an integral part of the thermal management. Doesn't the cement provide a path through which heat can flow from the lamp and be dissipated by the reflector? Your solution mostly eliminates conduction and relies entirely on radiation and maybe a little convection as a means to cool the lamp. Your experience (or the experience of others who have tried this approach) would provide important evidence as to whether lamp reliability suffers with this approach. Clearly an excellent approach if lamp reliability is not impacted.

Anyone else tried this yet? Please comment on your experiences...

The projector is already tucked away and would be a pain to pull it out to get a pic. Instead, I created this drawing, to illustrate the solution.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

The Steel Spacer shown in the drawing was needed since the bulb stuck too far out from the end of the reflector housing. I have a junk box of metal pieces, like screws, nuts, washers, spacers, etc. so it was no problem to find one that worked. Additionally, I used a pronged wire terminal between the wingnut and the bottlecap to fasten the wire to that end.

BTW, I did scrape out the rubber seal from the underside of the bottlecap, just in case it might melt from the heat, but it likely wouldn't have caused a problem any.

Hi ywh, I am in need of a replacement bulb for the following.

VP6121

USHIO
NSH200BQ
200W

I would like to send my current lamp housing to you which looks like this:

If you would replace the broken bulb in that with one of yours and then send it back to me, how much would that cost via PayPal?

Could you PM me your email address? I would rather not put mine on a public forum but I cannot PM you yet. I will try after this post.

Many thanks!

I received the 200w bulb from ywh, now I'm confused as to how to install it in the reflector, one end has a nut and bolt and the other end a wire that goes along the length of the bulb and loops itself around the nut and bolt. The reflector has a small hole on one side, this allows one of the wires from the caddy to enter the reflector

Do I just hook up one wire from the lamp caddy to the nut and bolt and one wire to the other end of the bulb?

should the wire coming out of one end of the bulb be touching the nut and bolt on the other end?

Is high heat cement necessary or is the wingnut + wire arrangement ok? Should the wire going to the end pointing out of the reflector be soldered in place or just twisted on?

thanks

I tested my Hitachi CP-x958 with an old 150W Epson lamp, it works. Because the Hitachi is 190W 75V i ordered the 200W BSM-AC. For about 4 minutes i had a beautiful screen but then the lamp exploded... 🙁 €65 gone. Was the BSM-AC realy 200W? Greeting... W.Bos.

Hi I just received the burner, but it does not seem to be working. I fitted it in to the reflector and connected it to the projector but it wont light. According to the diagnostic LED's the bulb would not light.

This is a question to anyone that has fitted a BSM-AC bulb. The picture here shows the two ends of the bulb, one has a threaded screw fitting and one with the bare wire, when I recieved the bulb the bare wire was wrapped around the threaded screw end. I unwound it and attached the bare wire to the wire coming through the side of the reflector. I then connected the other wire from the projector to the screw end of the bulb. Is this how it is meant to be connected?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

do you know what the problem is? I made sure everything was connected and I was very careful when handling the bulb, but it just wont come on. Maybe there is something wrong with the projector itself, how can I test it is giving the right voltage using a multimeter?

thanks
