Drilling out a dead bulb in 4805 bulb-reflector assembly
Which of these drill types would work best? Do I need a drill press for one accurate drill bit size?http://www.dadsrockshop.com/diamond_drills.html
Or a smaller drill bit to use by hand (like a Roto ZIP:http://fastenmsc.stores.yahoo.net/bosspirrotcu.html

I worked in dentistry for many years - there are numerous plasters and stones we used for models that should be heat resistant enough for the bulb base job.
The plasters tend to be a bit weak and we used them mostly for preliminary models. The final models were made from a stone (basically a refined type of plaster) with exceptionally high strength. At least as stong as the cement I found in my bulb base and this should be ideal. Strength does depend on the amount of water used and how well it is mixed.
I'm faily sure these would have adequate heat resistance. If you're uncertain though we also used various investments as well (plaster like materials that mixed with water or other liquids and reinforced with high temp tolerant materials) to surround wax shapes for casting of metals.
(A crude type of investment that can tolerate moderately high temps can be made by simply mixing plaster with pummice sand but it tends to be a bit weak and crumbly).
Investments must tolerate very high temperature in the furnace up to 1600 c and contact with molten metals including stainless steel for metal dentures - so they'd have no problem with bulb temps. Some investments are quite weak and crumble easy - some are very strong.
I'm sure if you went to a dental laboratory they'd sell you the small amount we need for a nominal price, probably even give it to you if you asked nicely - they buy the stuff by the drum load.
YWH - can you give me a price for the BSC-DC 150w bulb and a way to contact you for payment?
I have been offered an SHP80 bare bulb from a Chinese company that they assure me is compatable. The bulb life is 1600 hours, down a bit from the 2000 hours quoted for the origional - but still quite good. The purchase price is $160 usd.
I came across another Chinese company that sells origional bare bulbs as well who quoted me $230 for the actual origional bulb. They assure me this is the origional bulb. If so it's consideribly cheaper than the best price lamp unit replacement I could get at $480.
Both companies offer a large range of bulbs and I can post their names here if anybody's interested - and a bit leary of cementing new bulbs in themselves but still wants a cheaper alternative.

lamps.
This is an email address from the guy I'm ordering my bulb from.
He sent me a catalogue of his lamps (38 in all) and it turns out my origional lamp was there under a different serial mumber - but it was easy to pic.
The price was $160 with $15 wire transfer and shipping fee to Australia. So for $175 USD I get the origional lamp with 2000 hours (4000 eco mode) bulb life - and a guranteed fit in my housing - no allignemt hassles.
He sent me an invoice as a PDF doc and you wire him the money.
I haven't received the lamp yet so I can't guarantee the reliablity - I'll post a message when/if I get it.
So far the guy has been excellent answering all my questions with patients and demonstrating a good overall knowledge. There's a wide range of origional lamps in his catalogue and worth a look.
I have no financial interest in this business and only just found this guy. If it works out I think it might be a good source of cheap origional bulbs.

YWH,
I'm in need of a replacement "bulb only" for an InFocus LP500. I think it's an OSRAM 270 watt, Lamp Type SHP and bulb number 5002054. I don't need the housing but if you have one you may quote that too. I really appreciate the response in advance.
LP 500 bulb
I apologize but I'm confused.
I will gladly purchase the bulb from you but don't understand your response or warning about the cement or wire. Will I be purchasing a complete bulb that I can install in the housing or do I have to completely constuct the bulb from scratch?
Thank You.
