I AM D v200, Fx Audio d802, optimisation and TPA3116

As I now have both the v200 and d802 I can offer another comparison. The v200 isn't a bad amp at all, but the d802, (while lacking analogue input and headphone output and a bit less powerful) is clearly better and more involving - at least to my ears 🙂. That is providing you turn its DSP off as otherwise the magic is killed stone dead.

Are both amps unmodded?

For example D802 compared to Sanwu TPA3118 PBTL wich sound pretty good.
Single-channel digital power amplifier Board TPA3118 PBTL 1X60W 35 electronic SANWU
I run it with minidsp 2x4 HD now 2.1 system.
Right now it have only analog out but i2s is hopefully being supported in future.
Dont need power .
Have a pair of TB w8-2145 8ohm with support of an sub but only need two channel for the fullrange.
Is it worth upgrading to an FX D802 for example?

The TPA is going to sound much better in your system, the D802 doesn't have an analogue input at all 🙂

I'd personally stick with conventional amps if feeding them an analogue input. Having the extra ADC stage to use a FDA amp doesn't seem a good way to go.

Yes but feed it with i2s from the minidsp, when it´s comming, maybe is an upgrade?

Well its up to you 🙂 That would seem possible but i2s output for the minidsp isn't here yet, and AFAIK i2s input for the d802 hasn't been published so you have some investigative work to do.

It would seem simpler to me to use your analogue out DSP with an analogue input amp. Or use the d802 with one of the miniDSP digital output capable crossovers. Or software Xover and USB output from a SoC board which is where I'm heading, probably.

Unlike the d802 the v200 and d310 have (dubious quality) analogue input as well as digital. So they are more versatile.

Hmm..I guess i should have done my homework before ordering the d802.
But hopefully they implement i2s later in the minidsp.

Yes but I have the newer mindisp 2x4 HD.
But it have an 20 pin connector inside wich I suppose is for i2s.
Dont know yet if it needs support from software to be active.

On the minidsp forums the question "Does the new 2x4HD have I2S outputs on a header strip similar to the feature that was added to the original 2x4?
thanks" was asked recently and a week ago got this reply from their dev team "It does but as per the datasheet/user manual/plug in ,. it's not enabled I'm afraid. We'll let the community know once it's corrected tested and enabled."

Patience grasshopper ...

I could wait.

Hey all,

Was looking at purchasing a digital amp and came across this thread.

Seems live most of the work done here is for the V200.

Looking to buy an amp fairly soon, is the general consensus the V200 is the amp of choice out of this lot?

They are different. Commenting on them without modifications:

The D310 is the most expensive and most powerful. It has a shiny new style asynchronous USB connection which is (arguably) better but rules it out for my particular usage. I haven't listened to this amp but it was recommended within this thread.

The v200 is a nice little amp at a ridiculously low cost for the sound.

The D802 is quite similar to the v200. It is slightly cheaper, slightly less powerful and has no analogue input at all, only digital. This amp shines with well recorded acoustic music and it is my current favourite.
