Valve or not valve, the problem remains the same: why do you need for a .1db riaa accuracy if you don't even know the rest of the equation...😕
That's why vinyl world enerves me somewhat, i confess..🙄
I could have said that and often have. As a Gernman guy who's name I forget says. " we do right what we can ". Professionals use tools to protect reputation.
Fortunately enough loudspeakers, diy o not, are no longer made that way... I find it a shame that turntablism still remains in its bat cave.

Seems they have passed me by. The gear is up to date. I will supply data when it arrives. It is a great danger to disrespect the past. Soon your future will be the past and we all become dust. It's our work that might endure. As I was told " in this world you never really know who you are talking to". Anyway, enough of this fun and off to bed. As someone on BBC Radio 4 said " I have seen many statues to writers, none to critics". Sticks and stones. I am 60, how old are you ?
What's it like to be working at the BBC anechoic chamber?
1965 far enough in the past for you? And oddly not forgotten.

What absolute rubbish. Professionals use tools to get the job done to a high standard/ required mandate. Any profession has its tools of the trade. High end turntable design however seems to thrive on BS and snake oil despite all the work of B&K on measurements.
My friend Martina Schoener
Did she sell that 78000 euro revamped Garrard? Or was it a Thorens?

Are you one ?
One thing I like here is the last time I had to prove myself was 1972 when at school. Same daft competiive stuff. Then I slowly became an engineer. I found real engineers don't compete. They work together. Sure we differ and some need to grow up. It is fun being back at school. At 17 stone and 6 foot from a line of blacksmiths I never had many real problems in life. As I am cheif engineer at 3 companies I seldom have to justify myself and it is fun to meet what I had forgotten. Why do some prefer vinyl ? Perhaps others have better ideas? Or is debate a science in itself where logic is less important than team spirit. God help you if war comes again. You won't be asked to help if only a debating club. Get your finger out and contribute. Some out there care and I support them. Garrard is still valued at $2 000 000 by Gradiente.

Crazy man. Maurice and Enesto are the most perfect gentlemen I have ever known with impecable English so misunderstandings rarely happen ( from one or two emails in the past Douglas seems a gentleman, VAS degeneration and our differing understanding of use, I say to balance the previous current mirror rather than degeneration which is a sad loss if mistakenly used ). To place that company in our hands for a few thousand pounds a year is not easy to understand. Recently we renewed the trade marks
and with my son did all the legal work ( self taught ). Three loosers like us doing the impossible. The trade marks are in our names as Gradiente ( it is abreviated now I think ) truse=ted us. We without being asked we signed a contract saying we are not the owners, by overly trusting us we were for 5 minutes. If not given a $2 000 0000 conpany on a plate.
To make the 301 which we would sell for £500 would be £ 1 000 000 even if done in China. Problem is I wouldn't want one. People say it would be a good idea. I know better. We have looked at two ideas to produce in the 1000's and have a friendship that could do it. Guys you are so unfriendly at times. Look how life treats you. Garrard was part of Robert Garrard and Co. We recently went back into their company history and was visitied by the comapany historian. Much of this is from our info in the link.

I have no mechanical engineering degree. I helped my brother do his similar qualification so learnt enough, he was poor at writting up his notes as to why he needed help. Although an electrical engineer I seem to swim well in electronics and mechanics. It's mostly the same in when in the problem solving dept. That's usually my job.
Richard Nixon in polite version said " Money walks and all else talks". The real one is better. I bet if we do 1000 turntables as in the idea being planned I will still drive a 15 year old Golf and have £10 in my wallet if lucky. I have 3 jobs but seem to find ideas to take the money away. On the other hand mine is a paradice life. A diesel engine that uses it's fuel to lubricate, cool and power the engine is what I would like to do with a Perkinks 82 BHP 2L generator engine out of the Montego in Landrover Mk1. Diesel specific heat capacity is 1.1 kJ/kg/K as against 4.3 ish for water ( perhaps 3.5 with antifreeze ). The engine would have a oil change every 36 miles, in a version of two stroke bearings for safety. The diesel oil is not able to degrade in that time and can withstand 130 C. The preheating a bonus. One can run an engine on 100% antifreeze and it could be a good idea. Don't be conned by the specail versions sold as waterless collant. It's not very different. That's problem solving in a nutshell. I would love to tell you my real work. Alas I can't. How did I get my jobs? By being head hunted in all cases. I have contracts that still allow that and work for very little money if the job demands that. Did you know to broker a deal at the IMF for billions gives £7000 to £10 000 as the payment fee to the risk assessor. To do specail work one often lives in a world that would seem exploitative. Thank goodness the IMF is still vocational. My lawer told me. She never charges me and insists I do it myself with her guidence. She would be £300 an hour. I bought her a meal for £11 last time. That's where being open got me. You won't find me on the internet as my rules of employement won't allow it. I have permission to be here. I don't work for Alan Bond and that would be my real happy hour if I did. I turned down Renault, couldn't stand 5 minutes of it. Had the V10 apart. Got a VIP badge for my trouble.
Off to sort out a VW Bettlecat now and late ( fun , not work ), see if it can be renewed to save replacing it. 450C needed. The computer needs to be told it's new after that. I wish I could tell you about Platinium. Sorry that's not allowed. But if you read carefully I did.
People say stay on topic. I wouldn't have a job if I did. solutions need a bigger picture.

That's corect and it would be a fake. The Zero 100 is the blue print for a better deck. Racing car friend Frank Durney was it's key engineer. Frank, revised and corected the arm to 1/4 it's orriginal tracking error and was called GT 55 which was sold separately in the USA. Frank said it was a classic four bar linkage as in all relivant engineering books and Garrard had not used known rules to perfect it. The Zero when idler drive was almost excellent and not unlike the Lenco. Frank taught me plenty and is a genuine genius. Frank although who is, is is totally untouched by fame and would bend over backwards to help anyone. The 1992 Honda Williams was mostly his work ( williams said, not him, too modest, ). I have no connection with Williams if asking. Frank was at Garrard in his early years and well remembered. He was boss of Toyota F1 when we last met and said Garrard was a more professional company and more advanced is using lasars in the late 1960's. I introduced my friend Kurt of Thorens. We also met Roman Grosjean who was about 17 I think at the time. He was test engineer. The Renault V10 taken to 21 000 rpm for me. No obvious vibration in the concrete. In testing 21K was used and 19K in a race. Testing was unlimited then. The Red Bull sounded rough and faster on an identical engine. Kurt concluded the Renault was slower as the aero dynmaics were too smooth! That was the blown difusser which was not understood then. Renault seemed politely bemused. They should have given him a job. The Renault was very poor at getting the traction in the first second as a big problem. The oil preasure in F1 is identical to a family car. In that a family car is sensibly over engineered. You now know all I know about F1.

How about staying on topic because:People say stay on topic. I wouldn't have a job if I did.
- It's the forum rule
- It shows respect for other people in the thread
Pano in the real world we engineers do work this way. I would be happy to be banned you know. It would give me plenty to talk about. In the real world the carzy ones like me make a difference. This is a hobby site when people seem not to want to be real engineers or keep quiet.
All the same thanks Pano for the 12 Lta advice it was diamond and you got them to me so cheap via Matt Farley. I think it's time for me to say fare well chaps. It has been fun and I usually get paid for this. As Mr G Marks said " I would never join a club that would have me as a member ". It makes sense. Frank Durney would eat this arguement for brakefast except he wouldn't be bothered.
