What is the power consumption of 8w Hiraga amps ? 8w x 2 channels = 16w , 25% of 64w = 16w. So I'm guessing just 64w power draw for Class A.
Pretty cool running.
At 850 mA idle current from two rails of 13 volt (after CRC filter) it is 45 watts. That is cool for an almost "pure" class A.😎
My shunts absorb some 10-15 watts, and the power resistors in the CRC another 10 watts. The max power is then slightly below 8 watt indeed.
At 14,1 volt/1.100 mA it does get 62 watts. I have had that setting for years. It does then need a large heatsink then with a low thermal resistance to keep the classic output transistors below 45 degrees. This does give 8 watt.

In his 20w Hiraga amp, a later version, he has added such caps.If only you knew just how devastating they are for the "AC curve", you probably would not say so.
But that is a slightly different amplifier, with more gain, I think.
Yes, the caps were added for stability. Your modification lowers the open-loop gain and enhances linearity in every stage. Well done.
How does the sound compare to a mini aleph J (10 watts) ? There might be a little difference in sound. Hiraga's Monstre is push-pull and the J is single-ended among other things.
hey, must the schematics of hiraga 20w version be somehow reworked in order to work off a car head unit (pioneer p88rs)
I collected some of the transistors but i stopped the project due to several reasons.
So i have my transistors for sale for a reasonable bid ( i think $250 is reasonable for all, shipping included)
10 2SD844
10 2SB754
22 2SK170BL
20 2SJ74BL
10 2SD756
10 2SB716

Do not forget about these power resistors too
A closely matched Quad
heated and then matched, easy paypal buy.
I have LOTS of them 🙂

GL lot give very too high current from jFet... then to high noise in 2sc1775 and 2SA872... that is amplified by 2SB716 then 2SD844
Look at the "constant noise figure" of them ! We must not exceed about 1 mA in idle what that was expected by the designer
You have to gain at GR lot with an Idss at about 3mA no more

I bought a kit from China the one with the 2n3055 and will use the mods in Lineups helpful schematic to power my 4 Ohm speakers. It's years since I made an amplifier and not being technical in any way I thought I would start with the kit and if it works OK then I will make either the MOSFet version or Lineups complete schematic.
I found Rod Elliotts ESP site and am making his capacitance multiplier power supply using a 300 VA 12v toroid.
I will post some pics when I have something to show.

Are there any good substitution for 2SA872 and 2SC1775? How about 2SA992 and 2SC1845 from NEC? Do anybody need the original 2SB754? 🙂
Hello
You are in the good way with this pair but idealy we must compare between before/after... regarding harmonics

I have different hfe if using those Hitachi 2SA872 Hfe 450, and 2SC1775 Hfe above 500. Okay i will try with the NEC.
Just finish one channel using the 2SK170 BL and 2SK74 BL , 2SA872AE 2SC1775AE, 2SB716 2SD756 all match hfe. The trimpot measure 300 ohm and 310 ohm to produce current 540 mA with 13.5 voltage supply. the amps runs cool🙂
What is the imput impedance of the le monstre?
What is the imput impedance of the le monstre?
Le monstre
I wish to combine it with this receiver
http://servv89pn0aj.sn.sourcedns.com/~gbpprorg/mil/inter/9208019.pdf
I would like to leave the circuit unchange up to the low pass filter and then replace all the audio chain including the opamp, with the le monstre, so I need to know the input impedance of le monstre.
The output impedance of the filter is 500 Ohms

The input impedance is the 48 k. You can totally neglect the input capacitance, this is less than a cable connecting the unit.

What are the proper volume potentiometers to be used for this schematic? Since the input impedance is ~48k values between 22-47k should be fine, correct?
