Yes, i used that same part. my multimeter for some reason indicated a shorted but with another meter there was no short, there's a resistance of 120ohms between pin4 and pin6.
Yes, out of circuit on board there is 120ohm present between pin4 and pin6. the IC out of circuit, there was no short.
I've never had to measure that but that seems bad. Does the resistance change significantly with the leads reversed?

I think it's defective. The 358 can take inputs very near ground. Do you have another op-amp that can do that? Any rail-rail op-amps?
I have a 4558 only, the parts I ordered will arrive next week.

I have managed to get output on pin7 (squarewave) of the hip4080, I lifted pin3 (hip4080) which was high. the JFET gate is high as well, should it be low?

Connect the lifted pin 3 to pin 4 to ensure that it's not floating.

replaced CD4013 & HA17358 - but it still shuts the 4080 off (how do i check the what is causing the 4013 to turn off the 4080?)

What pin of what IC is driving the clock terminal of the 4013?
Load the FET locations (gate to source) where you're measuring the signal with a 0.01uF film capacitor and post the gate signals. You may have to install a jumper from the drain to source of the low-side FET to get an accurate waveform.

No they are soldered directly to the board...
below is the drive of the high side when loaded with the 0.01uf cap (the gate resistor seems to have gone open here while loaded)
low side remains same with the source and drain bridged

If you bridge pins 1 and 2 of the 5470 (on the diagram), you'll get a better drive waveform.

On the 17358, when applying remote, does pin 2 instantly go to 6v while pin 3 starts at ground and charges towards 12v over a few seconds?
Does pin 1 transition from 0v to near 12v a few seconds after the remote is applied?
