Forgot to mention that I was already running this combo.
The highs are decent. This speaker just can't do vocals. Adam, I'll have to borrow some of the damar and pick up some foam. It's not like I'm going to be out out large sums of cash by trying it out.

I'd recommend damar on the whizzer, puzzlekoat on the cone.

Puzzlecoat, Damar, Epoxy putty, and duct seal applied. Much better.
Up next:
The 98 penny tweak (I've now got whizzer rattle from large bass hits), and dustcap four hole treatment (apparently this clears up the 1k peak which I decided to eq out for the time being.)
Drivers are being left on to "rebreak" them in. Hopefully 89.3 the current works some magic for me!

The camera was upstairs. Up a whole flight of stairs???
Maybe when I install the 98 cents tweak I can take pics of the backside of the drivers.

89.3 will cause your drivers to want to stop working and also collect benefits from you while not used. On the other hand, 100.3 may make them want to charge you for every note played. Stick with anything by Husker Du, left on repeat. My Changs like local music...

best break-in music - "Kenny G, Yanni & Friends, Live at Ceaser's Palace" * - your system never sounded this smuve

* joke, (I think)
chrisb, have you ever heard the albums "Time to Make Love- the Sounds of Cats Mating" or "101 Studies in Snoring" by Celine Dion? Produced by John Tesh, these recording powerhouses. The transients in the song "Outside My Window on a Worknight" from TML-SCM are great for the torturous stretching of a speaker's spider while keeping the overall duty cycle low so as not to thermally stress the driver. "Mouth Breather" is another good one, lots of midrange energy...
help mids are to high
please help i bult half changs and have the fostex 207 in them but it seams like i here to much mds and highs is there any way to take some of the mids away i dampened the back of the box and one side what else can i do

merickrc...nice job on the boxes - i too am working on a pair and am wondering how you managed the glue-up and clamping of the steps; also, looks like plywood for the sides etc. but i don't see striations on the step edges - did you use board lumber here?
sorry that i can't offer any advice on sound quality as i am technically illiterate and just barely ok in the wood shop...
thanks,
jorge

the glue up is done by glueing one long side to all other middle panels then i finished by glueing the last long side on and all those steps at the bottom of the box are sheets of birch plywood that i glued in place it takes a good bit of time to do but looks real nice the total time to build the boxes took me a total of 12 hours start to finish
ok, i'm still not clear - did you glue the steps before or after the 2nd long side was glued in place...thanks again,
jorge
jorge
i glued the steps in before gluing the last side in it makes it easy to do and you can get abetter bond
Re: help mids are to high
I built a pair of HCs using FE206e. I put foam damping on the top, back & one side. I also use baffle step correction (BSC) consisting of a 1 mH air core inductor in parallel w/ 5 ohm 10 watt Mills resistor. I don't know what the FE207 would need. For more on BSC, check out Martin's web site: quarter-wave.com/General/General_Articles.html. (Ignore the zobel network.)
Note that the resistance is critical: a change of 0.5 ohm is significant. Experimentation is required to match the speakers to your room & equipment. I know this is heresy to many in the full range community, but I find my full range systems rather poor w/o BSC.
Cheers, Jim

OK. I've had quite enough of that kind of talk.
I'll gather a supply of torches. If the rest of you would be kind enough to bring your own pitchfork, we can take care of this troublemaker rather quickly.
Rick
P.S. I'm using 1.0 mH and 4 ohms in my Half-Chang BSC.
