What a nice picture.... It's.... Art ! 🙂

But, but....It's a fake ! No Organic Red Mapple syrup, nore crown on the picture...😛... Hey rogue deamon, please go out of the Audiolapdance's body! :joker:

Snif, snif...what is this odour ??? Is it the mapple syrup ? No it's the benchmark's smell :judge: ! My Poll : winners are the nice big White and the distinctive little Green !

Could a Sussumu low noise smt resistor could be a good I/V resistor on the Distinction-1541 (the little green at the right) ?

Is there any good TDA1541 kit... mission is over....... Soonly our ears are going to revive !

Hey you understood me very well .

I was exactly talking about this sort of crown but didn't see it on the photograph...

Ahhhh, voilà : the mapple syrup ! That's your password... you're the real AUdioLapdance!

The Aya2 2014 will be the first very soon to sing as it's the more simple to populate as it's a complete kit (will try it also with the Wave i/o).

The distinctive Distinction-1541 will have certainly a tube stage à la Thorsten with Ceglar setup (but no yet...monney is lacking for that right now... have to play some guitar in my Wookie suit in the tube for that... did you ever heard Chewie sing ?)

Looks like I will be the first to post pics

This is a duplicate of a post I put into the build thread. I am surprised there everything went so quiet once Ryan shipped the PCBs.

Drum roll.. Proudly presenting my just about finished Distinction. I think this board is beautiful. Thanks Ryanj for the board. I think this captures some of the best ideas put forward by Thoreston, ECDESIGNS and many others. It will be a while before I have the rest of the power supplies etc done. Pics are taken together with a BBB and Ian's I2S to PCM board.

Dem values

The parts I used for Dem are:
6k8 snd dem resistors thin film 1206 25ppm - digi part - RG32P6.8KBCT-ND, and
smd silver mica dem cap 100pf - digi part - 338-1116-ND

I wanted the best performing resistors i could get without breaking the bank.

In my current 1541a DAC I use the Grundig Dem circuit and really like the results. I had tried a big thru the hole 100pF cap and also liked it but without the 6k8 resistors or SMD parts. I expect this will work very well with these small parts so close to the pins.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for my absence lately, but im back. The renovations are finally finished, and just in time for Christmas so all good.

Ive had a bit of time to plug in Ians I2S to PCM board into my system - and i must say i am very impressed with the results, the man is a gem to the diy audio world. I've also been looking over Andreas low jitter PCB project - looks very promising indeed.

Im going to start another order/interest list for the Distinction-1541 PCBs, as i've had a couple of enquiries. But with fewer orders the price will be a tad more, but i don't think it will be more than $20AUD. Ill get a definite price once the list starts growing...

Let me know how your projects are going! post it here or on Eldams thread, all good.

Looking good wlowes

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Do you use the I2StoPCM with the WaveI/O or the Ian's devices ?

Great you find there is a great difference with simultaneous mode Ian's board 🙂... mine is still waiting for the WaveI/O revision (with a little daughter board iirc) to be launched !

I tested with the Spidf Sure electronic test board : The Sure Electronic board doesn't work with the TDA1541 in 16 bits mode...

Did you try some of my caps choice for the local decoupling of the chip or did you stay with the Nichicons RP series ?

Hi Damien,

I'm using all Ians gear plus a qa550 sd card reader.

I haven't yet populated my new distinction pcb, i've still got the prototype version in the system at the moment. But i will try your suggestions for sure. Hows your build coming along? Andreas gear looks promising.

I was quite surprised by the increase in sound quality after listening with the i2s to pcm PCB, i kept telling myself - how can it sound even better, am i imagining it? But i'm definitely not, there is more depth to all instruments and a darker background. Its a substantial increase in performance for sure.

In the coming weeks im going to provide a document that gives a basic parts list for the distinction-1541 PCB so that people can feel confident in going forward with their projects.

Merry Christmas!

For the moment I am building the AYA 2 2014 and have some troubles due to my Sure Electronic SPIDF test board and maybe some broken TDA chips (mine are coming from broken CD players) I have.

I have the I2StoPcm board also for the Aya II 2014 and/or the Distinction-1541.

A SD reader is too pricy for me, even with the GB maid by Cheung (CFT).

So I'm waiting for the revision of the WaveI/O which will come with a new daughter board stacked with filtered u-fl (my understanding as the already existing WaveI/O has uf-l plug but with no isolation allowed by the eponym chip). The WaveI/O will be for the AYA II.

For the Distinction, I shall try : the clock maid by Andrea in NOS mode first with a 5.1 Laptech crystal with upsampled material by a soft before... or not (to be test!), then its double daughter board with two crystal 11&12 Mhz for a two time oversampling.

As the clock should be a SOTA one with excelent phase noise, I will have the temptation to try the external DEM clock coming from the BCK... at least test it as John gived it up but Thorsten was advising it in 2010 at hifidiy.org or here elsewhere iirc.

My only problem with the Distnction-1541 and the Well Tempered Clock is to find a USB streamer I can slave with this external clock. So the I2StoPcm from Ian must be slaved at 128 Fs and has a uf-l connector for that: here no problem (smart design 🙂 ).

I was believing the AMareno could be slaved bypassing its embeded crystals... not really sure anymore regarding this board !

So the quest continue for the Distinction-1541, not talking of the outputstage which will be certainly a tubes "T" stage à la Shane (Ceglar) or at least a SS!
It will be my tuned DAC in relation to my whole system with the AYA II as reference for the musicality.

Money is short to make all at once, I prefer to buy the good stuffs which are a little more expensive but one by one... have too many DAC projects as well as a basic adictive audiophile...🙄. All multibits DAC but the Soekris discrete R2R DAC...(which has luckily a direct output without buffer... but not sure him design will beat a TDA1541 or a AD1862: more resolution is not more musicality. But here as we need a POC :magnify:: I will test as well: him smart design is jitter proof at input as its FIFO like Ian's stuffs).

Merry Christmas,

Eldam
