Stan,
I saw this last year, and corresponded with Tony (aagreen) directly asking him his final conclusions.

Here was his reply:Mon, 06 Dec 2004
Basically, after a lot of experiments and mods I eventually returned to the stock GG design just as Rozenblit specifies it.

My assumption with Mark's wanting to explore the octal, was that there were new ideas he had read from the net elsewhere.

Hi Lyndon, the reason I posted the link was just to see if anything could be gleaned from it. I figure the more info out there or trial and error from the results can just add to the pot. It is interesting that for such a loved preamp there is not all that much info floating out there.

On my side, I'm a bit new to diy but definitely glad to see this project get cyber legs, I believe I got one of the last remaining books 'Audio Reality' out there about a year ago and felt this was the one for my 300B that I am sloooooly building.

I found these in my goodies cupboard. (didn't knew I had so many)
1 pair of RCA 6SN7GTB
1 pair of Sylvania 6SN7GTB
1 pair of Raytheon 6SN7WGT
I think they might do the trick, don't you?

Cheers

Well, you two guys should at least meet in a bar someplace in between.... Frog legs.....? I hguess they might eat those down in in Louisiana cajun country if there any left....:xeye:

Walter,

You will need about 2 amps of filament current for the 6sn7's! The 12SN7 needs only 1 amp total.....

Mark

Right. I should have a bit of time over the next week or so to have a look at this, ( so I will be in touch about your PCB G!🙂)

Important things first. Do any of the selection of suitable valves have that wonderful blue glow? If not I think we need to urgently re-assess the project...

:clown:

I think we all live in a plastic world but at least the scopes cases are metal! LuckyLyndy's Krell is in the lower right and its all metal too...bits of silicon thrown in here and there...... Anyone want to guess what the large vacuum tube is?

Mark
