Excellent paintwork and neat wiring. You have been a busy bee!

P.S. Thanks to your extremely high resolution images, I can spot that a hair is stuck to the paint 103.5mm down and 28.5mm across from the top left hand corner in the final photograph! :magnify:

Thanks all, still loads more to and the paint hasn't completely dried, nightmare to work on but had to be done while I have some limited free time.

The enclosures still need light sand, the edges all tidied up and its pretty much done.

Next is to double check the wiring, check the impedance, make sure nothing is shorting etc.

I'll send some test tones though check for any air leaks and generally get them ready to play some tuuunneeessss.

It's really time consuming and I was hoping to have these done by the new year, no such luck.

Today was about checking for air leaks and vibrations within the enclosure and some REW measurements.

Around 40 - 60 hertz there was a distinct sound of air escaping, using my trusty stethoscope I was able to locate it, the pods that house the mids and tweets need a little more work, some of the internal cabling need to be covered with sponge surround to just incase they tend to move or vibrate with the pressure from the bass drivers.

I also managed to add magnetic plates and holders for the grills which is so much easier and nicer, before they used a plastic type velcro clip.

Aside from that it's almost done, just the little things to do that will make them perfect I hope.

Once that's done finishing the second speaker will be a breeze as I know what to do and look out for.

I'll get some REW results up soon

A stethoscope? Now I know how you've been able to doctor these speakers back to health!

A breeze? I hope there's not going to be that much air escaping from the second cabinet!

Nice touch re the magnetic fasteners. I await the REW results with interest. 🙂

Hahaha the stethoscope is a really good tool to use, when rebuilding or making speakers you're able to hear and locate issues or problems within the build, I remember reading it as a tip in one of my speaker building books.

Second cabinet is solid, it's just when replacing the speakers and the pods I have to make sure the foam seal covers every gap and screw hole, it has to be a tight seal.

The results are in!

This next graph was putting a sinewave from 0-500 HZ and using the RTA to measure it, it was also to check for air leaks, resonance and generally what the speaker can cope with. From 170hz to around 240hz there was a complete drop!

So far so good! Any other comments on the graphs would be appreciated. The room where i have my setup is currently full of boxes and stuff to be moved as i am moving home, so there is clutter at present!

A few more tests Galu, thinking I can make improvements on the bass response by adding more speaker wadding, also the crossover design could be better. Looking at the graphs it certainly looks like everything is doing what it should. I like to do all the tests then once I am relatively happy I'll play some music through them. Got to build the other speaker now!
