Elwood, I've never seen a 2sk3497 but that photo of the part from the UK seller shows a
package different from that in the datasheet (see page 1):

https://datasheet.octopart.com/2SK3497(F)-Toshiba-datasheet-13716251.pdf
The 2sk3497 is a low Vgs part. Did the other part from the UK seller test higher than the
ones you got from Tomo-san?

My guess is you have received broken and fake parts. Hopefully there is some recourse available.

For those looking for 2SK3497's, see alternative devices at :

If you can wait, we may offer the remaining of our temperature-controlled, curve-tracer matched Semisouths, 2SK3497s and 2SJ74s 2nd half of 2022.
That is assuming we have time to finish matching our 2SK3497 stock.

Most of the Semisouths we have left are quads and twin pairs.
And we shall not split them, so they will be offered as such.

I finally got the opportunity to transplant my J2 clone boards into a chassis that can take the heat. This is an “upcycled” rawson Aleph 5 chassis. Now it’s a J2 clone with SLB power supply. The amp is running at 26.3V rails using a 400VA 22+22 Antek donut. Sound is fantastic!!! My Aleph 30 monos can take a break for a while.

Great build! What did you use for Q4? 2sk2497?
