Mine are only about 70 hours in. I will keep them playing and look for changes in the coming weeks.
Finally (!) made my cabinets pretty after listening to them for a few months.
Front and top are finished with some nice panelling from a company a family member works for, and the sides were done with two applications of linseed oil and then a darkened hard wax - makes birch ply look very premium!

FH3 with A7ms? Is that a Yamaha amplifier? Its pretty.
dave
Yep FH3, 7MS, Yamaha A-S301. I'm the one who asked about MAOP 7's and amp upgrades in the FH3 questions thread. 🙂
Got my wall-mounts all setup and sounding pretty good.
Using my miniDSP 4x10HD to tweak and control. Chromecast audio is connected via Optical and a little Dayton DTA-120 is the main amp. Nothing crazy.
There is a top-firing LD22 tweeter in each speaker. Running with a 4th order HP at 2.5k and a slight time delay.
The TB is running full-range with some EQ. Small suckout around 300 Hz to taste and added a lift centered around 55 Hz to counter the roll off in the small sealed box.
Was planning to add subwoofer but after more listening I think I'll be happy without. The driver seems to behave even at the volumes I use with the extra lift in the bass.
You'll see the couch in the picture, its a corner couch that wraps so you can sit and get a better on-axis sound. It also sends sound right into our kitchen, great for walking around upstairs and listening to music and podcasts.

Thank you so much Dave and nandappe for guidance, as well as everyone else that contributed to helping me pick the right parts for this build. 🙂 I learned a lot and they sound outstanding, even in my completely misshapen living room!

The drivers are Mark Audio MAOP 11's in a Pensil 11 case. I'm using an SMSL DA-9 amplifier connected to a HiFiBerry DAC+ Pro (soon to be a JDS Atom DAC) for sound.

Desktop "soundbar" for casual listening. First demo can be seen in the video below. Status: unfinished.

Interesting, is that without EQ? Seems pretty bassy for what it is.
Yes, they are eq'ed.
Ah, ok.
It's quite a coincidence you happen to be playing with lone FR drivers in an OB at the same time as me, the last example I could find of it in this thread was from 2007!
There are probably some hidden in the OB thread though.

Maybe there are. I guess, a lot of people don't consider OB because of fundamental misconceptions or just a lack of knowledge or availability. Most if not all off-the-shelf drivers aren't bade for OB use. However, this doesn't mean, that they are not suited for OB. For my part, I just can't stand the sound of boxed speakers within the 80-500 Hz range. That's a matter of taste.
The Visaton WS line performs very well in OB applications. For this soundbar I used the WS13E which I had laying around. They get pretty loud and they play bass quite strong and noise-free despite of the small baffle size, no side wings, and the small x max.
Fully agree on that. What I (and the neighbours) cant stand are low bass room modes, open baffles are better in this regard but it is still a problem for small/medium sized rooms, accepting a reduction in low bass to avoid room modes and reaping the benefits of OB and single FRs is a fine compromise for me.
A closer listening position (1-2m) helps a huge deal with bass anyway and for an FR that is no problem.

Audio Nirvana Classic 8 in 75L bass reflex. corner placement + 8dB bass boost from 40-80Hz really help, no need for subwoofer on music duty. driven by SIT Vfet amplifier
