HELP ! AC-2 damaged

I have a complete NHT surround set up with a pair of 2.5's in the front, super two's in the rear and an AC-2 center. Both 6.5 mid bass speakers in the AC-2 were damaged by the housekepers. Is there a suitable replacement, in addition to the 077's, which appear to be unavailable from anywhere. Or am I reduced to replacing the entire center channel ?

Hallo Forum,
I am very happy to find this Forum.

I´am a great NHT speaker fan since 10 years.

So I still have my 2.9`s the AC2 Center and one pair of SB3 + a pair of super ones as backcenter.

Now because of the age I planed to renew the drivers at least for the 2.9 and the Ac2. Very happy found Jack Hidley page with some replacemnt drivers. Unfortunly I can`t get two the minimum order of 200 $ because the most drivers like the tweeters and the Foster 6.5 are no longer available.

I wrote Jack two mails to ask if it´s possible to place a lower order for the 4" drivers but I never got a response from him.

I contacted NHT for replacement parts and they send me a list with all drivers available. But with shipping to Finland Tax and custom fee I will pay around 800 €, a lot of money.

NHT told me that the drivers are old stocks so they have at least the same age as my drivers. The biggest problem is I think the tweeters they are Fero fluid tweeters ao with his age the tweeter will dry out, or isn`t it.

I went to Seas drivers webpage and the are offering a lot of replacemnet fero fluid drivers.

So, I like to ask is there a option to replace all drivers from the NHT 2,.9 and the AC2 with matching new drivers from any brand like Seas, Scan speak or any other brand?

Or better sale all speakers to buy some new ?

It would be very very nice if somebody could help me.

Thank you very much
Nhtuser
Sorry for my english I am from Finland

I found a private party with ten of the npt-11-050-1 Seas tweeters for sale. I bought them all and have used them to put together some more of the VR-X kits. There are seven kits left. They are listed on the driver sale site again.

I'm 95% sure that NHT has 077 6.5" woofers for the AC2 still available. How were the drivers damaged?

The only drivers in the M2.9 or AC2 that would ever wear out from age are tweeters. This would only happen if someone played high level music for a long enough time to dry out the ferrofluid in the tweeters. I think this is really unlikely to happen. Unless the other drivers have been damaged, there is no reason to replace them.

The ordering and shipping policies on the driver sale site are very clear. They are designed to protect my time from people who don't want to read. I know that some people won't like them. If that is a problem, they can hire me as a consultant, pay my hourly rate, and I'll be glad to talk to them for hours 🙂

NHT parts giveaway!!!

Date 10/17/09

Time 11AM-2PM

Location NHT 6400 Goodyear Rd Benicia CA 94510

NHT will be giving away a large quantity of sample loudspeaker drivers, electronics components, transformers, crossover parts and some complete and semicomplete development loudspeaker systems. There is no published list of parts that will be available. The loudspeaker systems in question were used for product development and for the most part will be complete. Most of these systems are from more than five years ago and NHT no longer needs them. They will be raffled off with a limit of one system per person. The driver samples are all of the place from 1" tweeters to 12" woofers. There will be a very large number of about 3" diameter flared ports available. It is strongly suggested that people bring cloth bags to put parts into.

There will be a $10 cash only charge at the door to cover NHT's expenses.

Please DO NOT contact NHT to ask any questions about the giveaway.

Nht s-80

I bought the S-80 from you for a friend who has no use anymore of the S-80 after he sold his XDA Amp. Don't ask me why , it was such a nice sounding speaker system with the XDS !!
I got the S-80 for a fair price from him and I'm now trying to find out what to do with the S-80.
Within the fact that the S-80 has no crossover I can't use it for something else ? I could get rid off the Hum with jumpering the Amp inside, but that's it so far.
I have two possibilities:
Looking for an external active crossover (maybe the X2), or trying to part out the sub. Using the 12" woofers and maybe the Amp to build a U-Frame Subwoofer that matches my Open Baffle speakers.
But for using the speakers in another subwoofer application I need some data to play around with some crossover ideas. Unfortunately I have no test equipment to find something out by myselves.

Thanks for the info . Looks interesting.
Do you maybe also have some specs of the 12" Aluminium woofers , Qms, Qes,Qts,fs, ... ? That would be great.
thanks
Juergen

PS: with the S-80 I also got a pair of classic three that I heard the last two days. Man are they good for this size. I'm really thinking about to use them in my main system but I'm struggling how to use them with the S80.
X2 active crossover or try something like the DSP crossover from MiniDSP ?

The woofers are already mounted in an optimized sealed enclosure. They could be mounted in a vented enclosure, but would also require significant eq to have decent bass extension. I don't recommend using them in a vented enclosure.

To use the S-80 with an X2, you would need to change a few resistor and capacitor values in the X2. I would just swap it with someone for an X1.

Ok , here we are. I think I agree not to use the woofers for another vented design, makes no sense . I think I will stick with the Seas Woofer I was already planning with , when I can't get along with the S-80.
So you mean that the S-80 would work with the X1 crossover better , without modifications ?
many thanks for your help and support

M-60s Questions

I am now the proud owner of a pair of M-60s.

Before I break out the soldering iron and Neosporin, below are my plans for the speakers, I am looking for comments from the folks here. I also have a few questions, hopefully they can be answered by the NHT maven himself Jack Hidley. (This is also my first post, so I hope I get this right)

I plan on using the published passive crossover design first.

Next, I would like to try an (op-amp) based active crossover. The literature provided says use a 2.5kHz, 12 db/oct (min) for the main filter, and that raising the XO frequency makes for better power handling. I'll start at 2.5kHz, looks like it should not go above 3.5kHz or so before the woofer response gets ooky. The crossover I have is a conventional 3rd order pile of op amps.

Here is my first question then. I have an idea to use a pair of the Foster sub amps from Jack (I have one already) to drive the woofers, and bypass the variable-frequency low-pass section. The high-pass looks like it could work to provide the bump and roll-off needed at the low end to run the speakers without a subwoofer (which is my preference). Good idea?
Eyeballing (never a good idea, I know) the woofer response curve could be used to determine the component changes needed in the high pass, but what would be a proper FC and Q for the M-60 woofer filter?

I would also like to try an embedded PC digital crossover to emulate the function of the XdA. I have not seen a complete description of the filters used in the XdA/M-60 combo, just the main crossover point, the low-end options (subwoofer or no), low -end bump and rolloff for non-sub use, and the two shelf options starting at 2Khz.
Any suggestions on how to specify/characterize the filter sets in the XdA for use with an alternative DSP engine and the M-60s?

Replacement Drivers

Greetings, I came across this thread while browsing the Forum. I ALSO stumbled upon an old Spreadsheet (from 2007) which had info on old
NHT Drivers for sale. Given that 'sheet' was issued almost 3 years ago, I Thought I'd ask here as to whether or not there are any of these drivers STILL available and if so, WHO I need to contact for more info?

Thanks

JJ-
