Focal 826 Tweeter Removal

Wow, the music from the movie here was known as "The blow" ....

It became very popular here as a waiting topic on telephone answering machines. Maybe all over the world, came the mini-tapes already recorded in some cases. If I have heard that little music ...

Sorry OP for the OT ....
Solace is a beautiful piece, and the orchestral version from The Sting is good.

I'm not arguing, I just wondered whether you had some knowledge or whether it was just biased opinion.

Listen, I've been in the service business for decades now, and have seen just about everything under the sun come into my shop.
When I call out something that I deem sloppy crap, it's not because I just want to spit into the air.
I certainly wouldn't call my opinions biased, I'd prefer to call them "of experience".
Run a busy audio/video repair shop for over 40 years, and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Have you no positive assessments of plastic chassis, in your opinion they're all inferior to metal? Other than them warping over time have you any other experience of them and which speakers specifically? It seems many of the plastics available today perform very well perhaps better than what you are used to?

Yep, you can sure tell who has service experience and who doesn't.

I ran the service department for a major electronics firm for a couple of decades... I believe you when you say you've seen it all. I've seen everything from severed fingers in photocopiers to computers packed solid with roaches all the way to amplifiers drenched in beer... People who've never done the work really have no idea.

BUT... all that said, I would remind you there is considerable value in keeping up with the new stuff out there. Some of it's pretty good...

I'm not going to take sides here, 😉 I just wondered if a plastic basket could go through this "adventures" .....
I remember that TG's advice was to try to return the basket to its place using presses and wooden dowels. But I don't remember if there was success.

Screws for mounting drivers

" Do not think a speaker driver is a something meant to go into orbit. Fasten screws properly but don't overdo. I sold a 12" JBL driver to a guy complaining the voice coil was scraping. It turned out he'd fastened the driver so tight with T-nuts that he had bent the driver gasket!"

It sounds kinda like you insist on disagreeing with me, and that's fine, up to you of course.
But my comments about this are not, repeat not, negative, in fact they're positive views based on my own experiences.
In the shop for years I've had to repair, excuse me, replace woofers with plastic baskets - it doesn't matter what brand, but at this time I lean on Focal simply because they come to mind.

People usually don't see the "insides" of their equipment, they just buy and enjoy for the purpose intended.
I, on the other hand, have had to lurk deep inside of many products, and that gives me enormous clues as to quality - something the "pretty facade outside" that the consumer is flattered by at times cannot compare.
I've seen snazzy thick brushed aluminum faceplates and impressive controls, yet on the insides I find over-worked power regulators on anemic heatsinks, if even on a heatsink at all.
I'm well aware of "cost cutting" procedures.

I'm not "biased" as you insist, I'm only telling what I know.

Thank you, I was after a bit more of an explanation of why you said, effectively, "all plastic baskets are crap, period". Regards biases, I've got plenty of my own, I don't really want anybody else's 😉 just some clarity of facts with a little bit of evidence if possible.
