Well, now that you mention it, where do I get a screw kit that isolates that tab. I've been looking everywhere.
The bar idea is great. For future reference, should you need an isolation kit, I did a search at mouser, on "shoulder washer" and came up with these

I suspect digikey has similar items.
Keep up the good work.

wow, as usual I have language difficulties, so I will use heatsink for diodes at my f4 too...🙂))
It's getting late at my area,
Carpenter and Steenoe - it is a pleasure to talk with you, thank you!
I tried to say this yesterday but I lost the web connection.

Hey, Carpenter
Let me give you the same question again.
Did you use R of 22.1K between the ref and the cathode of TL431? Sorry for bothering you.

No. I used R of 4.75k plus 22.1k in series. I had no 27.4 resistors.

I've enjoyed your presence, as well. The diodes get rather warm without heat sinks--that said, I used much more heat sink than necessary, I will probably back off to using just one (there's actually two, small, black heat sinks in the picture).

OK, I read page 66 and found that your R8 was 26.85K.
Sorry for the having asked without careful reading.
Now I understand that you are using IRF630 and 9630,
which are different from mine (IRFP240 and 9240).
Actually, I was asking about the R8 value because I was
wondering, when the P1 is adjusted to 0, what could be the
maximum bias current I could have in my estimation on the
paper . . . (I want the maximum about 0.7A) . . .
From your post on page 66, I guess you get about 0.85A
per Mosfet in your case . . .
Cheers,

My pages are probably numbered differently than yours (I'm currently showing page 57). What post number were you referring to?
I've reduced my bias; it measures 200 mV (.425 amp) across the source resistor.

5 AM? 18 hour difference from me . . .
It was 11 PM here. I was planning F4 construction. Mine would
be constructed with main parts : aluminium chassis, PSU (pcb),
input buffer (pcb), and power gain (point-to-point). So far, so
good on the paper . . . At the same time, I was listening to The
essential TAJ MAHAL . . .
I'm going to finish my construction within few days when I could
have my own time at home . . .
It's 8 AM now . . .

Very 😎, sez I.
I am very interested in building the F4, but simply wouldn't know where to start as I have no experience with electronics.
Could anyone offer some advice on where to start?
How do I go about selecting components?

My humble advice would be to start with a less challenging project if you have no experience whatsoever in DIY electronics. Why not get the feeling for DIY amps by building ahum... a Gainclone (see the chipamp forum) or a simple class AB amplifier. Class A is quite a bit more costly and much easier to sr.w up and may not be the best choice for you...yet. The F4 will come in time.
IRFP240 has been divested !!!???
Hello everybody,
I just start to collect f4 components and got the following sad information about IRFP240 here:
https://ec.irf.com/v6/en/US/adirect/ir?cmd=catProductDetailFrame&productID=IRFP240
"Part: IRFP240
Description: 200V Single N-Channel HEXFET Power MOSFET in a TO-247AC package
This product has been divested. Please continue your search of IR's comprehensive product line for solutions that fit your needs."
Any ideas about IRFP240/IRFP9240 substitute ???

Check with Mouser. Look at the Fairchild substitutes.

This amp is easy enough to build if you take your time and study all the F4 posts. Check in here as well: diyAudio Forums > Top >Market Place >Trading Post >WTB: F4 PCB boards--Read that thread and purchase the pcbs when they become available.
I'm assuming you've read Nelson's Zen amp tutorials, if not, you should.
Best regards,
John

whazzat with N suffix ........?

ROHS?

you'll find here enough mosfets for next 10 yrs , but this is how you'll find actual ones
