PMA said:Mike,
every year in July I come to South Bavaria (Oberbayern - Tegernsee, Schliersee, or Berchtesgaden area) for holiday - we can meet there 😉
Tegernsee(the lake with surroundings, as there is also a village with the name Tegernsee situated in south-east part of the lake) is indeed a very beautifull place.
I was there for 6 years ago visiting my father who lived in Am See in the north for a period of couple years, I can understand him that he enjoyed to live there.
BTW, is the picture of your son taken from Tegernsee, it reminds me of Bad Wiessee in the background on the other side of the lake where I was too at the time.
Some day I would like to go to Czesh too! 🙂
Cheers Michael
Upupa Epops said:Mike, let me know, if you will coming to Prague...and Carlos too, certainly.. 😉
That would be interesting ! Prague is even closer than Berchtesgaden from where i live...
But be warned ! I can eat much more than i look like... 😀
PMA, any more progress with your boards ? It must be a pleasure to solder professional manufactured boards ! 😉
Carlos, close away your daughters !

Mike
Michael,
I hope to have the complete amp finished this weekend. You are welcome to listening tests 😉
Cheers, Pavel

Well Mike, beeing so close to Prague...well, if i was you will accept this invitation
Maybe they have time to produce, you have not...if they like, some agreement can born there.
This will be good for everyone of us...wide world advantage having one more amplifier beeing constructed...and they do those things well done, as you can see in internet...those guys, are very good related construction.
I am a little distant, you will eat all the meat before i arrive, people told me that Epupa use to be near the fire to be the first to eat.....this is dangerous to delayed guys...ahahahaha!
Well, our son picture already shown to my girls.... they aproved, but said that prefer the daddy!..... and now?...can you face 18 and 23 years old?...ahahahaha...i cannot!
Michael...your car is turbo..very fast and you are a champion driver... autobahn will be helpfull.... let's spend some gaz and have some emotion!
The invitation, are not only friendly, but also a confirmation of testing transparence, as all interested people will see things happening....hic!...with some wine...hic!.... some Shop maybe...hic!..and then you can introduce microphone inside the cake and switch on the air conditioned, to observe the metering that will appear somewhere reflected in the near lake...hic!
This party may end very nice.... Michael always use this hat when start to be a little affected by wine...hehe
regards,
Carlos

Well, this is a virtual, fiction Kingdom of Germania.
So... the ones that dislike the amplifier...ahahahaha...will be send to the tower!..ahahahah!

I have just started to prepare casework for SymAsym. See

German amplifier into german case, this must definitely bring the best result 😉

Hi Pavel, yes these are very nice cases ! But, aren't they a bit expensive ?
Mike
They are, but I have one spare just for prototyping. I like professional work 😉. I can guarantee good cooling of your power transistors 😉
What about a p2p construction ? only freeair with direct wiring... 😀
I still have my breadboard version of symasym...
About the guaranteed good cooling, be careful that the powertransistors don't get a cold ! 😉

Sure - best dielectric properties, and no shielding needed 😉
Hi PMA,
Very professional, very clean. I can't read German so I don't know the price. It's probably the going rate for a rack mount case with heatsinks. (not cheap, but not horrible either)

Is it the "spider assembly"?.... point to point construction...some aerial post to
Hold parts in place?...is this work?.... was used with tubes, i did it 35 years ago, also i could see one germanium transistor constructed this way...can be pretty too.

Carlos

When you make a spider assembly you fell yourself on a jungle! hahah
The maker is a Tarzan, and the Spider Assembly the Jungle!
Oh yeaaaaah

Problems on powering up
Hello folks, I finally got into the powering stage of the Symasym.
There is a great problem though. When I apply power into the amp Q4 starts to heat up rapidly.
The same thing happens in both channels.
I have checked the soldering and the components and they are OK.
Does someone have an idea where to start seeking the malfunction?
Jarno

Hi Jarno !
I'm sorry that it did not work at first powerup... As both channels show the same symptom, it is quite sure that you have no defect part or bad soldering.
The easiest first: Checked polarity of supplyvoltages ?
The best would be 2 photos, one from the upper side of the board and one of the solderside.

I think I found the problem.
Since I am using bc550 instead of mpsa18
And just looked at their datasheets and found out that they have different pinout.
Collectors and emitters on the are just the opposite
I´ll try this

Oops, did i not mention that ? the BCs have reversed pinout...
This might cause such a problem. I hope q4 did not get damaged !

Jarno, my photo of assembled board here is with BCs, you can check it.
Yes, collector and emitter for MPSA18 are reversed compared to BCs.
I was very curious and ran the circuit open-loop, without output transistors. Just feedback resistor 22k connected to ground. You will not believe it, but it worked ....
