If some problem is having related my Yahoo..... i believe that will not show problems using IG... The computer was formated, deleted,... all HD cleaned and Windows and all programs loaded again...this is faster than go hunt viruses....this is the way i found to "shot the virus!"...also battery removed, bios reseted and re-programmed again...stupid and hard method...but computer now is fast again. Of course my HD deletion will not clear programs saved at Yahoo...and this is the problem.
Sometimes assembling an amplifier, you check and re check and do not find problems....and amplifier not operating, you can look at wrong soldered transistors 100 times without perceive...better to dismount and construct it again....less time expended...but much more work...things to old guys, that have attention problems.
I believe this time our communication will work again.... all brazilian sites was sent to block or spam, because they were disturbing a lot ask for inscription...in this package...Mod Evil may be included, and i cannot see him in any list or block adress or Spam blocked adresses

I like your website but.....
Hi Mike,
I like your newly created website but you omitted the begining of the symasym project and jump on symasym 5-2. So what happens to those still working on symasym 4 or even 1. Pls make ammendments.
I went out today to buy components for symasym 4, but could not get the driver transistors - mje 15030/31. Pls, kindly suggest any other ones for replacements.
Pls if I want this amp to be in stereo what should I do? Also, I plan to have two transformer to power them. Thanks for your patience.

You guys, aren't you self-confident enough to try to compare older version with the new one and try to make modifications yourself?

Hi soundbag,
i omitted the symasym4 as it is right at the start of this thread, not hard to find unlike all other infos for the latest version.
The differences between symasym4, symasym5 and symasym5_2 are minor, from 4 to 5 i replaced the RC in LTP by a single 100pf at the left side of the VAS, and from 5 to 5_2 I added only the 10ohms between signalgnd and powergnd.
About the drivers, can you get mje15032/33 or 34/35 ?
I think, any highspeed highgain driver with TO220 case should do the job !
I don't understand your question about the stereo, simply build 2 of the boards ?
Carlos, you made a horrible typo, you wrote "soundbad" !

bravo mike and carlos,
stereo?... well, if I produced two amps and bridged them so that I can have two seperate channels. How should I go about it?
thanks

Hi soundbag, for stereo you don't bridge the amps, you simply make 2 seperate channels, both of them completely on their own. You might share one PSU for both channels, everything else is simply doubled up.
Mike
Mike
Sound bag.... maybe i could understand you.
If you have two mono amplifiers, two channels, you can have a stereo system.
If you want to have those two channels bridged, you will have a very powerfull amplifier.... will have 46 volts RMS....maybe more than 250 watts RMS..... those two units bridged will be transformed in a single amplifier, one powerfull channel, mono...not more stereo as you know.....of course...you can duplicate all those boards and supplies to have two enormous channels that will constitute a new stereo system, made using bridged channels.... each two bridged channels will result in one powerfull channel..... will need four separated boards, and at least two strong supplies....10 amperes supplies....
The problems related to bridge amplifiers are related the hard work you will have to switch the outputs....as using bridge mode, you will need only to use the red wires... the positive (called) output wiring will be needed only... ground will be out of this sittuation when bridging units.
Also, you will need to send signal to both amplifiers at same time..
and this signal will have the need to have the phase inverted in one of the channels...let`s say, the down channel...or let`s say the left channel.......
One stage, transistorized stage, already shown in our forum, in old brazilian amplifiers...or (I found what i was a long time searching for),with gain 1..... do not amplify nothing, only invert the signal for the down...or left channel (your choice).
Well...those switching are hard to make...need short connections, relay or electronic switches.... i think can be very problematic.
The other problem, practical experience i had, is that amplifiers are never the same...there are always some difference in levels and those errors appear added in the output.... a bridged amplifier normally distorts more than the single unit that was used to compose them.
I am sorry if i am saying obvious things to you...well, i cannot know how much you know those things...you may be a doctored and i may be stupid to explain those idiotics things to someone experienced...i am sorry, in advance, as i cannot know by telepathy, how much you know about that subject.
And better than that...i have always the intention to write things to young guys, beginners....the less experienced, and doing this way, detailing things, they will capture the meaning.
This way, i can be not so nice with you, because i could not discovering in advance your capabilities, but i am sure i will reach a lot of young smilling boys that will jump happy to understand more details.
regards,
Carlos

Carlos,
you would need more output devices to bridge SymAsyms to get that high power, otherwise your advise might lead to Destroyed Amplifier 😉

Yes PMA, rigth!...each amplifier will see 4 ohms load
This way, is more safe to duplicate the output devices.
Good to have you connected here.....this way will avoid some error.
Thanks Pavel....was helpfull.

Right Carlos, for bridged amplifiers, it is about currents, output devices are more loaded by current.
Re: Yes PMA, rigth!...each amplifier will see 4 ohms load
Yes, but as symasym does a good job driving 4ohm speakers, you can use it with a single pair to drive 8ohm speakers bridged.
But even with double devices i doubt that symasym can drive 2 ohms single, 4ohm bridged... In these situations the lowcurrentvas might become a problem.

I think Pavel is beeing carefull with this matter
And this makes some sense Michael.
Despite your amplifier can hold 4 ohms....have not too much room to mistakes...will be working near the limit of dissipation if a continuous steady tone is connected to it's input....not my case..i am using stronger devices from Sanken.
But, we are always observing that many 8 ohms speakers are not really 8 ohms impedance.... to 1 kilohertz sinusoidal signal, i could observe that 6.2 ohms (non inductive, or reactive resistor) connected in series with the speaker coil, result in voltage applied divided by a factor of 2..... so..... the real impedance may be (my case, the example...just for instance) 6.2 ohms, when 8 ohms are painted over the speaker.... and wrong painted, as no impedance and no resistance measured at 1 Kilohertz (standard) match 8 ohms....this is a practical trick:
The resistance value, connected in series with some speaker coil, that resulted the amplifier output voltage divided by two (half total voltage over resistor and half total voltage over the speaker coil), will be representing the correct speaker impedance.
So..... in those cases....when the real impedance could be low as 6.2 ohms...when you connect the wrong labeled speaker in the middle (between 2 channels bridged) of powerfull Symassym connected in bridge mode.... and send into them, a steady continuous 1 kilohertz sinusoidal tone....each amplifier will understand (will see, will perceive, will be alike) the load as beeing 3.1 ohms.....and here.....may happen some problem related current limits, as impedance is lower than we where waiting for...current will increase, and can kill the output.
I think Pavel point was very good Michael, as we cannot guarantee reliability, when we do not know what our friends will use as loads for Symassym...so...better to increase transistors to avoid deceptive reports when using bridge mode.
I do not know if i was clear...sorry, English is not easy to me, when i have to write those things....read with care, you may discover what i mean.

Carlos
