Explendid amplifier designed by Michael Bittner, our MikeB

Hi Mike,
Got your instructions, thanks.

No, I haven't had a chance. Every since XP went down I have not been able to get the sound card working properly. 🙄 I have to change computer functions around and put the sound card into a newer bench computer. I hate windows.

Hi Nando,
Did you try to uninstall your soundcard driver from Device Manager and reboot ?
Yup. A Microsoft update trashed my system, Microsoft was unable to provide a fix. So, I formatted the partition and reinstalled XP from the ground up - fresh. No joy. What used to work no longer does. That moronic company cost me at least three days and my ability to to what I need to do.

IBM on the other hand is at least honest. I had a bug in OS/2 R4.0 and they provided a fix. I am still running a beta of IBM Warp server 4 and it's been solid. Unlike all the buggy beta's (they call them full releases) Microsoft charges for. XP is Microsoft's best attempt so far and they are just getting to where OS/2 R4 was 10 years ago. OS/2's kernel was more compact too. It runs wicked fast on new hardware.

Note to all. If your problem isn't a driver (someone else's problem) Microsoft is not really able to fix it. That's support. All the diagnostic steps were an attempt to prove it was a driver vendor issue. They did admit that wasn't the case and dropped the issue. It's not worth the fight, so for important systems I highly recommend some port of Linux. At least you know there is not always support unless you purchase a commercial version. I would suspect that you will get patches in that case.

Sorry for the rant, but Microsoft ought to be charged for theft and loss of revenue on a large scale.

Hi Nando,
Not wanting to stay off topic too long. I'll just say my confidence is much higher with Linux. uSoft is too nosy and too easy to hack. You do know they are starting to attack Linux now.

Most people run Linux because it's no uSoft. uSoft may want to attack it because IBM is behind Linux. 🙄

IBM's Clustering awesome!
Sun also good for Linux
Novell Too!

enough rant

I have some old MJL1302A, MJL3281A's 4 of each.
Was thinking of resurrecting an old amp with mods but then🙄
also have the 2sc2240's
Easy to get 2sa's 2sc's locally

with a 2*28vac xformer ~400va should be good for 50~60w?
best suggestion Version 5.3?

allan

Hi Allan, 2n5401/2n5551 are good sounding low noise transistors. And, because of the voltageswing in the VAS, these transistors have to withstand ~72v with a +/- 36v supply. BC546 or similar will blow when volume is turned up.

You have to be careful when using 2sa/sc to92 transistors, they have completely different pinout than BC/2N/MPSA transistors.

A 2*28vac xformer will give ~40v DC, that's absolute maximum recommended, but still okay.

Mike

Thanks Mike

Was thinking about using 2sa/c's
have some 970, 2240, 1015 and 1815's lying around and was thinking to use them since i'll etch the pcb's myself.
different pinpout i know,(pain in the butt)

Havn't used the 2n's before, little knowldge of them.
but i willing to learn or try😀

I'll go standard first, layout and components so i'll have a reference for future.

allan

ps did you think about CFP output?

Dear all,

I saw the Amp yesterday in the new DIY Loudspeaker magazine and this is exacly what I'm looking for since more than a year.
I tried to get some cheap Amps from ebay to give a little more power to my Cinema Frontspeaker which are connected at the moment to a Yamaha RX-65x, but got nothing really interesting.

I read a lot in the magazine, on the web and here in the forum, but not shure how to start. I startet with a electronical carreer, but thats a long time ago.

Also I saw on not page something about the power supply the Amp needs?

Is there somewhere a let's say Information for Dummies out there?
