ELEKIT TU-8900 2A3/300B (Stereophile Review Available NOW - July 2023 Edition)

Victor,

I’m not sure if you remember me. I ordered and built a TU-8900 with WE300B’s over the Summer.

I wanted to thank you again for all your help. I couldn’t love this amp more.

I had built a 300B kit a dozen years ago, and the midrange was stunning; but, the bottom was flat and dull. The TU-8900 with amorphous core transformers is not like that at all.

I’ve left one good review on diyaudio already. If there’s ever anything else I can do to help promote this, please let me know!

Regards,
P

Interesting. I'm going to build a Nelson Pass designed amp (Zenductor II) next weekend at Burning Amp. Still debating whether I should bring my TU-8200R to get some help and feedback on measurements, in particular the 7kHz output transformer resonance.

I just picked up a pair of Sony MDR-Z1R headphones. They are rated at 100db/1mW sensitivity and 64 ohms. Which jumper setting would be recommended on the TU-8900 for these?

Thanks in advance!

A question I haven't been able to find the answer to elsewhere:

Most of the SE tube amplifiers I am familiar with have a caution to avoid being powered up more than briefly without speakers or some kind of load being attached to avoid overheating the output transformers.

I am going be using my TU-8900 for a while as a headphone-only amp without speakers connected. While the headphones' plug is in the Ele-kit's headphone jack there is a load connected (the 'phones). However, does the same prohibition apply to the Ele-kit, to avoid prolonged power-on without speakers or headphones connected?

Thanks in advance (going to listen to my newly arrived Sony MDR-Z1R 'phones now!)
