This is very good..you're producing tests and comparison and can confirm
or dennie things i have posted..... this is very positive for you, for me and for our forum.
about the Dx Blame ES you do not "think so" anymore..you develop expertise testing and comparing.."you know"
And everybody can do the same, following your good example, each day discovering another interesting thing.. the work to introduce or remove a capacitor is not too much compared with the results.... the compromise appear clear..you can transform this amplifier in a excelent bass amplifier..will loose high end..also the opposite is truth.... the way it is in the first schematic, has the best ballance i could achieve (maybe you can do better..everybody can do better to match their speakers and personnal taste)..you see small modifications killed half the "enchantement" we had in the first model.... so...tuning matters, tuning can result good or kill an amplifier sonics
thank you,
regards,
Carlos

Nice one....very pretty.
Thank you by your preference and confidence.
A second amplifier made in Polland.... there's a third under construction.
I hope it will give you ears of pleasant listening.

Please folks.... take some seconds to listen this Dx Blame ST audio sample
This recording shows, clearly, the sonic signature.
Gave me a hard work to do...my matress removed... a chamber created using matresses..you can listen the second microphone (voice, microphone to narrative) reverberating in my empty room (without absorbing matresses i have here (2 units..one double and one single).... a third one was captured from another room.
It is very clear the high end...the main characteristic.... clean and undistorted..and perceive this is electret condenser microphone..but made a good job this time... i had to equalize and to make recordings and comparison with them master several times till i could "match" both sounds..the real thing i am listening (sonic signature) with the recording made.
YouTube - Dx Blame ST - Version 1.5
Without controling and adjusting..the sonic signature will be the microphone sonic signature..... (hard work...try and error basis..several tries).... if you arrive at my home..and come to listen..this is the sound you gonna listen.
regards,
Carlos

Hi guys: Mr Director X, loyal members
I have a question to ask which will probably send the teknocrats diving for their keyboards to post a technical opinion but I am not seeking such an answer as can be found in a book. I can read a book too, if need be. I have not asked others for opinions yet either, unless Carlos wishes it.
So, DX, If I put $100 in your pocket and said "Get me the best value for money bootstrap caps for our DIY friends and their Blame amps, Please." You would come back with ?????? OK, so you can't drink the change or buy the ones with the rhodium plated foil and monkey juice electrolyte or you do time in the sin bin and I am watching from over here. OK?
Seriously, it's hard to frame a question in a forum such as this which does not prompt cries for products that are unobtanium for most of us but I hope I do not offend by putting things this way, I certainly do not mean to. If there really are solid reasons to use something special then we should try to get as close as we can afford, I think.
BTW the DX Corp. R&D dept. is really coming along! The video productions are getting slicker too!
Keep having fun now because when I start building the Blame ES, you will have no peace. Best regards
Ian

Ian,
what do you mean by "bootstrap caps"?
Do you mean: Power caps?

Yeah Finch...... i see you like some movement in the thread
This is a good atraction..they will land here for sure.
Use electrolitic condenser..... with polarity or without polarity... use insulating voltage equal or more than rail to rail...so...minimum of 70 volts..then use 100 volt condenser.
the Brand is your choice....you see the picture...the golden letters..maybe it is golden...the nice green one...this brand is good....i use to replace them.... sound the same...not only these ones but the 6 brands i have...all the same..so...being electrolitic...the correct value, good insulation voltage will fit.
About forum guys i do not know...but about my own personnal friends... local brazilians..i use to replace them and ask...this one or this other one? (without change nothing)...and they select one or other.
Ahahahahah....anything substituted.... the same versus the same.
But sounds different when you invert, when the value is wrong or when it is defective.... when you ask:
- What's the best?.... then people make a choice....if you give them the option "the same"..then they perceive 60 percent as the same and 40 percent as different..as you may be fooling them.
regards,
Carlos

Thank you danspy, we'll talk perhaps to DX if he's about.
Rudi, Hi again and thanks so much.
The Blame as opposed to blameless designs use a topology for the voltage amplifier called a bootstrapped capacitor. I don't have the part number on screen nor the BOM but it is a 47 microfarad electro from the resistive divider above VAS to the output rail. It is necessary to match the high impedance output of the voltage amplifier to the dicey base impedance of the output drivers. Someone will rightly scream at me for that terse wording but in its brevity, without an exhaustive dissertation on its modes of function , it works for me and thousands of past designs.
In the blameless and 99 percent of other recent linear audio amps this whole arrangement is scrapped and a constant current source (CCS)transistor is fitted to the top of the VAS output to ensure a steady, optimal bias current flows through VAS for greater linearity, isolation from other stages and theoretically eveything should be better.
This has all been better discussed. Illustrated and fought about in this thread for the last six months.
I had my doubts about audio quality requirements for this capacitor's job so I thought I would ask, in this forum, for a different kind of view to those freely offered elsewhere. Forgive me Carlos if I tread on your toes. I am not a great dancer - Haha! regards

Take a look on this pdf Ian..... i have not written this.... was published first time
in this same forum, in 2005 i think.... in my point of view, condensers are the same..but there are others that has different points of view.
An interesting text about selected parts.... i do not agree with everything written there, but some ideas are interesting to read..some are funny.
I hope this will not start a discussion about parts...the thread is Dx Blame ES.. so, few postings about is all rigth..but if we repeat 4 times or more then moderators will land here.

Carlos

Hehe,...Keep having fun now because when I start building the Blame ES, you will have no peace.
😉search your warm socks and take something on your head when you want to beat my dx blame es 😀😀
Mhm, I think you must have a really good chain from source to the LS in order to differentiate between different condensators...
Thank you Ekkart....that's it...let them try.
I love some off topic Ian Finch, and you are a specially interesting person.
But moderators dislike... the thread is not about capacitors or condensers..so they may enter saying (picture)
- " take this by your off topic man! "

Carlos

Ian,
may I give you a hint?
The word Carlos suggests: 🙂
Word begins with "Nichi" - in the middle: "con" - and ending with "Muse" 😛
But, as we say in Germany: "Other parents have nice daughters as well."
Best regards - Rudi_Ratlos

Daugthers?... i have some...i have three
And capacitors brands...i have many.... i have tested, more than once..they all sounded the same...at least to my ears.
Well...my dear friends.... brazilian evaluators are funny...i use to replace nothing by anything and they perceive difference?
Ahahahahahahahahah!

Carlos🙂🙂🙂🙂

well
I use generic Jamicon as bootstrap cap
because Nichicon was too big 🙂
hehehe
Ai-yi-yi! OK Boss!
No problem. I have some "things that cannot be named" like that thanks. you have a PM, Rudi
Volker, Hi! Well, my current class A toaster is so clear I can hear your Blame ES gasping for breath from here. When I get the blame going yours will need a box of tissues to clear its throat and you will need one for the tears of sadness.
hehehehe! - just kidding - and right on topic too.

Really Finch?.... i want the schematic, ...if you have something that can compare or
beat the Blame...i want it!....yeah...i want it!
Hello Luka....yeah....you condenser is smaller....but even this way it will work..hehehehe.

My take of BlameES using Zharmo's PCB
Thanks to Zharmo, I have made some minor modifications to his PCB and the PCB is ready to etch.
I have got the following in my parts bin: Evox 10uF film capacitor (lead-spacing is 27.5mm) and a double 0R33 emitter resistors. Kicad look quite easy so I gave a go & modified Zharmo's PCB to accomodate these two components.
Carlos,
I have got most of the parts with the exception of C10 (47uF 100V), I have got a few 47uF 50V Bipolar electrolytic capacitors. I just wonder if I can use the 50V bipolar capacitor for C10.
Cheers, Stanley
My DX Blame ST pcb layout, used TO220 package transistor driver.
NOT builded yet!
PCB Layout file is Kicad format.
