DUAL Merus MA12070 fully balanced Amplifier pictures inside

To come back to the Sabaj - I think the MW PS board mentioned above might be too high (25.4 mm for the Morsun vs 35mm for the MW).

Space between the top of the Mornsun LOF350 and the bottom of the case is "2,8cm". With the Meanwell there is about 1,86cm left. Should be okay, since I don't believe the case is getting hot at all, maybe unless you push it really hard (which I don't do anyway). Worst thing that might happen is the Meanwell regulating itself down a little, for the internal heat sensors regulate the output.

I'm expecting mine this week, and the first thing I test, if the background noise can be heard with my ear close to the tweeters. My speakers have AMT tweeters and I have several class D and class AB amps with no hissing or other noise.

Thank you daniboun. I did the same plus I insulated the speakers-out-cables, the Vout-cables of the PSU and put a lighting match box inlay with a piece of plastic foil glued inside onto the speakers-out-panel. Vout has been raised to max with the screw-knob (small blue case on PSU).

Picture-series (1 to 13 / Start-Finish):
Gallery on Dropbox
*The copper cage around the speakers-out-panel has been removed due to safety reasons and replaced by the lighting match box solution.

All with ears directly to speakers (from distance none of it hearable).

Before:
-22db (67%) - white noise/ants crawling from speakers starting
-15db (75%) - white noise/ants crawling intensifies
-00db (100%) - white noise/ants crawling at maximum
After:
-22db (67%) - Silence
-15db (75%) - Silence
-10db (85%) - A subtle, very high frequent whine/humming emerges (very old people probably won't hear this)
-05db (92%) - The high frequent whine/humming intensifies
-00db (100%) - Now it's like those shows where people make drinking glasses "sing" by rubbing them with wet fingers, but still not very loud.

I cannot recommend anyone to conduct a similar operation though for the results may vary and there is no proof for the lesser (and different) noiselevel coming from the insulation. May just be the raise of Vout on the PSU alone. I plan on installing a Meanwell RPS-400-24 soon. This is mainly because I want to get rid of the relay-clicking problem (solved by Sabaj) and I want to use the 5V auxiliary out of the Meanwell for my DAC because it is supposed to be rather "clean" for a SMPS. I do not expect it to improve performance much compared to the Mornsun. Maybe a subtle bit. I will report.

Hi,

Very interesting and well done mister SoniCCurrent )
I rather improved the improvements externally: I built an electric 220V bloc with an Audio filter. I often insulate my cables using ferrites.

I do not have the proof that it improves or not the signal or that it protects against electromagnetic disturbances but I am self convinced that my setup is clean.

You can see in the "Cookbook" of the NewClassD that they are using Ferrites as I do in page 19.

Hmm, these reports about noise are worrying me a bit. I have just ordered two A20A's to try in an active speaker setup for mids and highs. They will be acting as power amps with volume somewhere at -10dB to 0dB. Strangely I have read reports from other that say the units are totally silent with volume all the way up. Maybe a difference between balanced and unbalanced inputs?
Well, anyways, if they are hissing too bad they are going to be returned inmediatly. I bought them for a secondary system where I don't want to spend too much time DIY so modifying them is not an option.

Mine is absolutely dead silence, but I am using balanced inputs only.
Dead silence also @ -10DB

You should not have any issue normally.

It's not "noise" in the sense that it would bother you. At least not from your listening position. You'd have to put your ear to the speaker to hear it, even at -0db (loudest). I am using RCA though. Might be totally gone with XLR.

The DC output connector is for 15V devices (not 5V).
Sure. There are 2x7.5V caps on the PCB. I shot up the 1A fuse so I can't use the 15V backport anymore. Used to plug a RecomRS3 15-5V converter to it to feed my DAC. The Meanwell RPS-400 of which I am elaborating to replace the Mornsun has a 5V/1A out. That's what I meant.

Thanks for your replies, I'm really curious about the performance of these little amps. I will report back

I'm planning to use balanced inputs as well. In fact, that's one of the reason I was interested in these units, the balanced inputs.

Well, this and the fact that it has a built-in power supply was a real plus to order them. I really hate powerbricks. I will never ever in my life buy another piece of equipment with an external powerbrick, I am totally done with it, it makes a total mess of a already multi boxed setup.

The Murata PQC250-24 is also a choice to consider...
I know that Orchard Audio use them into their BOSC Gan amps. Orchard Audio confirmed their superb performance
But I did not check their size )
