Let me be clear, @gpauk, this is a very high level discussion of General Relativity at heart. You clearly have not been following the thread properly.
I find your post badly punctuated and ill-defined. What is "Spice"? Nutmeg or Curry powder? What is "lpad"? Surely a spelling mistake.
Sort of thing people post from mobile phones.
As it goes, I use Visaton Boxsim 1.2 for most simulations.
Or version 2 if you must:
https://www.visaton.de/en/literature-software/software
It has a perfectly capable attenuation calculator:
But I can do these things in my head to reasonable accuracy.
@Galu. Get us back on-topic, please. 🙂

That is not the same as simulating the action of the two linked variable resistors (rheostats) in a variable L-pad.
I saw the manageress (Ruthie) of the famous Southsea Betfred Bookies yesterday, and she gave me 3 kisses and a hug! Most smart people like me very much.
But I have not been betting lately. I am saving my efforts for the jumps at Cheltenham in March!
I generally only follow Group 1 races. Top quality, you understand.
Thankfully I didn't bet on this one, since Shiskin (A horse I like) unseated his rider while leading by 2 lengths whilst 2 fences out... and a complete outsider won.

As an autistic person, I can only tell the truth. Even if it hurts. 😀
Sometimes upsets people who practise self-deception.

It aught to be a bridge T to track correctly. Say you had a signal generator with a 600ohm output impedance 😉 not that matters as the generator will see a 600ohm load. But following the bridge T the output impedance doesn't change as the attenuation is increased. That is driving something that also has some input resistance so changing the attenuation doesn't upset the balance. That is not the same as simulating the action of the two linked variable resistors (rheostats) in a variable L-pad.
The other area where similar ideas are used is items such as co axial cable. Maybe 600ohm audio lines.
Otherwise fixed L pads etc as has been outlined. Or maybe make one resistor variable as some AR speakers did.

I understand that autism brings about deficits in communication and social interaction.
I understand that you may also be hurt by our comments.
Let's all try to keep personal comments out of this thread and focus on the Wonders of the Cosmos instead!
Indeed, most learned and wise @Galu, I have come to terms with my Autism. I am rarely hurt by personal comments.
Though I have occasionally LOST IT COMPLETELY. A fearsome RAGE.
Let us all return to Einstein's Theory of General Relativity:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Introduction_to_general_relativity
It is the best Theory we have so far. So I am working on it. Unless Stephen Hawking was WRONG. 🤣

Let us all return to Einstein's Theory of General Relativity...
...and look at a method of straightening out curved spacetime:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/a-method-to-straighten-curved-space-time/ar-AA1mvENX
"It turns out that there is a certain mathematical object called the Alena Tensor, which allows the description of physical phenomena in such a way that the curvature of space-time can be smoothly adjusted as if using a slider."
Apparently, the Alena Tensor is a recently discovered class of stress-energy tensors that has extremely useful properties. In curved spacetime, this tensor reproduces Einstein Field Equations and in flat Minkowski spacetime, it describes a physical system with fields that can be widely configured.
Could the entire Universe around us be just a constantly waving field, and spacetime itself only a way of perceiving this field?
Don't hold your breath for an answer! 🤓
Some questions shall never be answered.
I am a Feynman Physicist. A mere 2.2 as it goes. It was agreed with the Authorities, who found me autistically difficult.
Got me through my Physics Degree.
I am not half as good as Sidney Coleman, and Leonard Susskind. And not a scratch as good as Richard Feynman.
Best Regards from Stephen, with a puh huh, in Southsea, Hampshire.

@gpauk could simply have apologised for a poor post, instead of making a pertsonal attack on me. It would have been more honest.
As for the Alena Tensor, it wreaks of madness and delusions of grandeur:
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fphy.2023.1264925/full
Specifically, a delusion of grandeur is a person's belief that they are someone other than who they are, such as a supernatural figure or a celebrity. A delusion of grandeur may also be a belief that they have special abilities, possessions, or powers. Delusions are generally the result of a mental health disorder. 27 Jun 2017
Just my opinion.

A more rounded view of the tensor

Maths heavy but implications mentioned.
The intro interested me. It reminds me of a comment Einstein made concerning his own theories.

@Bonsai may be interested to know that the Alena Tensor could possibly reconcile "the worst theoretical prediction in the history of physics", i.e., the vacuum catastrophe.
This is interesting...
Indeed! The link tells of the recent discoveries of two more gigantic, unexplained structures in the universe.
They have been named the "Big Ring" and the "Giant Arc". You'd think they were fairground rides! 🤓
However, the largest known structure in the observable universe is the "Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall", a filament of galaxies that is approximately 10 billion light-years in length, about 10% of the diameter of the observable universe.
The "Great Wall" was discovered in 2013 while looking for gamma ray bursts, and is shown in the artist's representation below.
These clumps of matter are so huge that they defy cosmology's core belief in the uniformity or homogeneity of the universe.
I think the BBC reported a ring that is ~15%. However you might have heard mention of the local group that we are a member of, So are these oddities new?approximately 10 billion light-years in length, about 10% of the diameter of the observable universe.
Can't say I understood much about the Alena Tensor...
Seemed to be saying that Quantum Elerctromagnetic and other Effects (like radioactive decay or spectral lines from Hydrogen) can occur in curved Spacetime, but we knew that anyway, I suppose. Clocks run slower, isn't it?
I saw the ring structure article. These structures are HUGE! 1.3 Bn light years....

Mizar and Alcor in the Plough is a naked eye double star, if you eyes are good. FWIW. And Mizar itself is a double through a modest telescope.
The tail points to bright orange Arcturus in Bootes. Arcturus moves relatively quickly and has moved a moon's width or so in the last 2000 years.

The Great Arc (3.3 billion light years across) was reported by the BBC as 1/15th the radius of the observable universe.
In percentage terms that's ~3.6% - if my calculator does not lie.
If we could see it from Earth, it would be the size of 35 full moons displayed across the sky.
The Big Ring (diameter 1.3 million light-years) equates to ~1.4%
However you might have heard mention of the local group that we are a member of
That is the Laniakea supercluster which is 520 million light years across (note million, not billion).
