Seriously, now...
...oh, stop laughing...😉 I can do straight, bent as I is....*G*
Damn.....Dale, that's probably the most generous offer one could expect or hope for from someone with your rep and status. And I'm seriously humbled and a little stunned you'd offer it to our little rag-tag gaggle 'out of the blue' as it were. (...and Mags, no inference that what you're up to 'elsewhere' is 'rag-tag'....that's Definitely not the case with your 'summer project'...) As you noted, the usual response is the the loud 'click', if not preceded by someone questioning your sanity or size of one's cojones...
A wonderful offer. I don't have the slightest idea on how to be or become a proper 'rep'. I'm good at what I do, business is definitely on the upswing here at ASV Play, so I'll pass on that kind offer.
As a biz person self, I totally understand the non-disclose/no compete aspects. And no, I wouldn't presume to ask you to. You've worked long and hard, invested treasure/blood/sweat/tears. You deserve your status, and the admiration of the audio community for the singular products you and your staff create.
I've read the GP 'white paper'...bookmarked, downloaded. What I personally am working on would likely be considered more of a threat to their product line (more specifically, a variant on the DDD itself) than to your 'children'....
(*G* 'They' are, aren't 'they'? Anything nurtured for so long with so much effort becomes treasured and guarded jealously. Seems normal to me. 😉...)
I'm really touched and thrilled you find what we're up to of interest, and are compelled to keep an eye on us. I realize that I'm the main source of 'distraction' and 'levity' (sic), but like Lady Gaga, I'm just wired that way and want to 'keep it fun' on some level. If it's not fun, there's got to be a better distraction that is....
Perhaps if you'd just 'look over our shoulders' and tell us if we're doing something really stupid? *L* You could and can be as vague as you'd like, our own 'Cheshire Cat', teasing our collective Alice? Our Moses, leading the masses towards that Promised Land that always is something different for each and every one.....
OMG, I'm waxing into similes and starting to sound like a cheap paperback. *L*
Disclose nothing. Infer if compelled. Please stay. *S*

Hi Jerryrigged,
Thank you for the kind remarks and recognition. Truth be told, If I am recognized as an authority, then it is only because I was able to stand on the shoulders of the "Giants" that came before me. 😀
Hmmm, must have missed that one. Mag's Summer Project??? 😱
I have been waiting for the rest of the gang to chime in or answer my questions. Cochleus is still pondering, Mags has not answered, yet.
Yea, gotta love them loud clicks. Believe me I have had my share. Only a couple of times in my life have I responded in kind. There are always a few A-H's in the world. But even if I say no, it is with kindness and some explanation. You should have seen me when I began my Laser company 45 years ago. (still in Biz) Talk about jealously guarded secrets. The industry was all eyes and ears, but very closed mouths. It took a long time for me to earn my status in that industry. See Your Gas Laser Guru for Refurbishment/Sales/Service is at HHR
In any case, there is no "Proper" Rep, just very, very satisfied clients. So, if you wish to rep us, then simply spread the word about our products and try to get folks to buy. If you can get a person to buy and they tell us,... so and so sent us, then we will pay you anywhere from 10% to 15% for the sale. Simple as that.
Right now, we have a small war going with TAS and Stereophile. Both these Mags absolutely refuse to acknowledge our existence or our products. They were absolute Pompus ***** at the RMAF and AXPONA shows. Their take is they simply don't believe in Omni Speakers and call them"Old Technology". (Walsh's patent is from 1968, BTW). When they said that to me, I responded, well you guys are in-love with piston drivers and guess what, they were invented in 1861. Guess what I heard, yea, you got it,...Crickets or the dreaded Click. It really hurt me deeply to find out that so many of the people that I looked up to for so long were so jaded and unreachable.
However, most of the smaller mags and reviewers loved our speakers. BTW, Toot my horn a little for all of you fellas in case you have not seen our offerings from the last AXPONA show in April, with partners Conrad Johnson and Purity Audio Designs of NY. Check out the video on the AV Showrooms web site of the coverage at AXPONA 2015. They gave us a rousing review and nice compliments among others.
OK, back to business at hand. 😀 If you have all seen the GP White Papers" they certainly explain the modes of operation, and the interactions of the drivers with size, mass, density, Young's Modulus, stiffness ratios etc. They even give the thickness of the various materials. So, between the Walsh Patent and the GP papers, you have your answers.
In addition, I have written a rather lengthy treatise or white paper which was originally posted on Ebay and I intended it to inform would be buyers of the dangers of buying Old A and F products from the site as well as what to expect. Most importantly, the dangers of buying from some "Reconers" whom think they have some idea how these things work. These Earl Scheib $49.95 jobs are just what you would expect. They grab any part that looks like it fits, slap it on and hey if it doesn't fit just slather some silicone on it and away you go. Yep, right into the poor house. Not to mention giving the speaker a bad reputation and that "Burns" me more than anything. (There are no parts!!! Zip, Nada, Bubcus, Zero)
They say that emulation is the most sincere form of flattery. However, in business it can be a double edged sword.
If any of you would care to call me directly, introduce yourselves and like to chat, I will gladly find some time to talk with you. Simply go to the website for HHR Exotic Speakers and look up the phone number. We take calls up to midnight EST since we deal worldwide.
Whew! 😱 I talk too much.
Best,
Dale

Hmmm. yeah, high end audio seems to have it's share of snots and snobs. And anything 'omni' is looked upon as 'just not serious'. To be fair, there's been a lot of speakers that talked the talk but couldn't crawl, much less walk when it came to performing properly. But when the MBL's hit the market, there seemed to be the beginnings of a reconsideration of what a serious omni could do.
Or maybe the stratospheric price tags just made for a serious jolt. *L* That, and the technology involved...serious stuff, that. Mags has been working very diligently to diy it, and has some impressive evidence to show for his work. Personally I'm very happy that he spends some time and mental energy 'here'...he keeps us focused, and his commentary makes one stop and think things through...
Lasers, huh? Now that strikes me as an interesting contrast....
Walsh/omni/diffused vs. laser/tight focus/intense.
Your very own 'ying/yang' balance. And that sounds pretty kewl, at least on some levels. 😉
As for being a rep, hey, I'm more than happy to send the serious your way. The people that wander into this space tend to be more curious than committed, but all seem supportive of what we're into. I ran into a fellow in Germany at another forum who came into a pair of F's that needed renovation. But the mere cost of shipping them to you was out of his budget. He asked my opinion of a diy repair; I suggested he first make some prototype cones first, just as a 'warm up', before tackling the F's. That, and a huge dose of patience...
I've read the GP 'paper'...the patent...and yours, too. 😉 And I'm working on my 'take' on those documents, in my own stuttering fashion, abusing 'junk' and cast-offs to play with 'build' quality and answering some personal curiosities about what's 'between the lines' of those papers. None of which includes building a 'Flintstone' version of your Michelin radial...I know my limitations. *L*
To paraphrase P. Townshend, "This is me having Fun".
I'm of two minds re giving you a call. Cost isn't one, cell has a high time budget...and it would likely be fun and instructive/educational. It just underlines that there's is no one locally that I can refer to that has the ears and inclination to hear what I'm doing. There's the local musicians and the Moog crew, but 'audiophiles'? Rare critters, and hard to reach, even with the technology beneath our fingers.
...and I'm not running anything that has a 'pedigree' that would impress any 'serious audiophile'...other than these weird little speakers that do something really impressive....
....if only to me...*s*

Jerry, congrats on a job well done 🙂
I could give you the understanding and the recipe for the speakers or one of them, if each and every one of you were to sign a non-disclosure agreement, or a no compete contract, via separate private contact with me.
In the mean time I ask that you seriously consider what I have said and provide me, if you can, some realistic answers to the questions I have put forth.
As always, enjoy the music.

Hey Dale, I would hope I at least understand the basic principals of the driver. I have put together a very quick and crude way of making a pretty close replica of the DDD German physics unit. I will re-post it here in one place. I would love a chance to talk with you. I do not wish to compete at least not with a Walsh driver. I will sign an NDA. You can email me anytime or pm me.
The DDD driver
First piece of info. German Physics seems to use This carbon fiber at 0 degrees. The weave checks out orientation and weight are as far as I can tell exact matches.
The Weave 2.9 oz Carbon Fiber Woven Fabric: 42 inch Wide
Alright folks here is the completed model. Pretty accurate from what I can see. Structural components are added. This thing is ready to be built. Who ever is interested post and Ill upload in that file format I know how frustrating cad can be so I think per person basis is good. The rods are 144mm..... since i dont think anyone cares for anything besides the cone here are the dimensions VC= 2" MOUTH= 5" HEIGHT= 5.5"
Materials : Mirror, 2.9oz plain carbon, Epoxy, vacuum pump/press, scissor, template, spray adhesive, glue, sand paper.
Process: lay mirror on table, spread a base of epoxy, lay carbon, spread epoxy, vacuum-bag, or lay a releasable weight on top to firmly press, make a cutout template with cad and spray re-positionable adhesive then lay the template on the carbon. cut out with the scissors. sand edges to make up for cuts. remove template, roll to the proper shape and glue the ends, then do what ever treatment then proceed to glue to terminations.
Heres the break down on the w's of the process.
Use a mirror to get a mirrored finish. A release agent like Frekote must be applied to the surface. For resin prep I recommend the following. MGS resin or really anything with a slower cure. Mix as accurate as you can a digital scale really is the best. mix well. heat slightly to lower the viscosity and degas. Now apply a thin layer on the mirror apply the carbon I recommend cutting a rectangular area that is 2 inches larger in all directions than the cut-out to allow for cutting of flashing. I also recommend taping the edges The process for this is easy. Measure the area of carbon you want. Tape the outline with scotch tape of a non stretchable tape, then use a rotary cutter and cut in the middle of the tape. You now have a very robust sheet of carbon. Next soak the carbon and spread using a bondo spreader the small ones making sure to not only spread the epoxy but also the fibers flat take your time and let it set in. Then vacuum bag or make a releasable press with the same Frekote. Cure for 3 days and then post cure IN THE MOLD OR UNDER PRESSURE!. This will prevent warping.

Hi Jerryrigged.
Yea, got to have a balance. Believe me I wish I could find it. LOL. I am into way, way too much. It would be really great to get the so called authorities to sit up and take notice, but alas, I doubt that will happen.
It could happen however if our clients and friends would give them a piece of their mind.

Hi Magnasanti,
You are indeed a smart fellow and are right on track. Increase the length of the cone to 6". Use the most powerful magnet you can get, with a single layer edge-wound VC on an Aluminum or Titanium former. No paper. Must also be able to handle high temps. Keep the weight of the VC down. 2.5 to 3 grams. The Carbon fiber cone can take more pounding, but it will not give the high end that Titanium will give. You are at the very limit of the thickness for this cone, .006" + resin, .008" to .010. too much.
You are correct, cone weight not as important as VC weight. VC represents the mass that must be accelerated or decelerated. Internal cone damping is a must and can be tricky. Foam, putties and or expanded neoprene. BTW cone suspension is also very important. A flexible spider and surround are a must.
I have said too much.

Dale thank you for chiming in. I am at the very limit but the odd thing about the carbon and resin mix is that is can end up thinner than the carbon fabric as well as thicker and the same thickness. Epoxy does not always add thickness. I agree on the extension to 6" it was an error in measure a slight one. I agree on everything else and for me is common knowledge. I think I have said all of that in various post. I know the recipe but you are the master chef. A flexible surround? really I thought it needed to be stiff. The only place I still have questions is at the surround. If you dont mind answering either here or through a pm with an NDA if youd like.
Hi Magnasanti,
Do you mind if I just call you Mags?
Anyway, give me a call. We can discuss a few things. Easier than email. or email me direct at our HHR e-mail address.
Thanks,
Dale

...and I can be called anything, including late to the party...*G*
And it's nice to be back, even if only for a short while. We've got a lot on the plate of late, but can't and won't complain about that. Gotta keep the dogs in kibble, otherwise they look at us funny. 😉
Dale, you said enough to verify what I've been proposing; a strong driver with a high heat tolerance. Keep everything as light as possible. I might take exception about a flexible surround, since the patent seems to stress damping to minimize (or hopefully eliminate) reflection of the descending waves. I've thought that Sorbothane or the like would be preferable to a flexible medium. I'd like to give it a go in a later version....
But I certainly agree with Mags re a DDD vs. HHR clone. You're in your element, and I'm more than happy to tell any rational biped that 'you da man wid da plan' when it comes to creating the modern version of the original...
"Foam, putties and or expanded neoprene." Hmmm...*G* Putties, No. *L* The others, mmm, yeah...that's 'doable', repeatable... Thanks. 😉
...and I'm still in awe of Mags' "Cliffs' Notes" version of working with carbon fiber. Cut to the chase, distilled, all it lacks is the slide show from becoming viral. *G* Brilliant...
Talk about standing on the shoulders....*S*

...reflecting on the surround issue...you'd need a surround with higher compliance, due to cone motion at bass frequencies. With a smaller cone, such as with a DDD, there is less motion vertically to be compensated for....but I'm more than happy to stand corrected. As long as it doesn't include corporal punishment....*L*
Well...as minor in a parochial school, NO, I didn't.
As a jaded adult faced with a 'differently attired' nun....I'd consider it. 😉
However, spouse would not find that pursuit appropo. Amusing to contemplate, perhaps. And I'm not quite ready to have a double orchiectomy (look it up and cringe at your leisure).
And I concur with Frank...envelopes are to be pushed, boxes are to be thought from beyond, and tesseracts are to be stepped into. *G*
On another plane, would you consider selling a portion of your 2 mil and 1 mil aluminum? Of course, this should include 'postage and handling' for your trouble. 😉
I'm thinking about moving on to V.4; 4 similar to what I'm running, but with better drivers (as mentioned), lighter cones (not blue-green though *sigh*), and 4 'scaled up' tweeters using the 1 mil. This should allow me to play about with the V.3's with Dale's 'suggestions' re cone treatments, and roughly following the EnABL patterns.
Current thinking: using a double-faced paper tape (which isn't as aggressive as the 3M film tape I've been using) on the heavier cones of the V.3's (which can stand the abuse), I can play with different materials in varying patterns on pairs. This would allow me to 'A/B' them. And since I'm used to what they currently sound like, 'broken in' as they are, I just might stumble into something....
...and it might amuse Dale on some levels...*L* Until he can't stand it anymore, PM's me a NTC form with some note about 'mental cruelty' and a promised visit from a large 'gentleman' mumbling something about broken legs....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN-GGeNPQEg
...meanwhile, I'll pull some...😉
...legs (What were you thinking?! *L*)
...and No, I don't look like that. Feel like that, sometimes...

And since I'm used to what they currently sound like, 'broken in' as they are, I just might stumble into something....
...and it might amuse Dale on some levels...*L* Until he can't stand it anymore, PM's me a NTC form with some note about 'mental cruelty' and a promised visit from a large 'gentleman' mumbling something about broken legs....

...meanwhile, I'll pull some...😉
...legs (What were you thinking?! *L*)
...and No, I don't look like that. Feel like that, sometimes...
