Hi All,

Just a quick update of where im at with the D3 design.

I've had a few computer issues which stopped the design process in its tracks for a while but i've recently picked it up again.

In this design i've included a position for an IV resistor, and also a basic CCS from +5V to supply 2mA for the offset output current - this not only sounds better than a k216 CCS but is more temperature stable.

Attenuator supply has been simplified.

Bit current supply pins have a position for 100uF 6.3mm/2.5mm pitch caps and also a 1206 100nF NP0s to go in parallel.

Looks good..

I might be the only one seeking this so not suggesting a design compromise...

For those of us who already have +5v, -5v, -15v supplies with sorted supply and discrete regs (salas shunt), would it be possible to drop the power supply parts from your pcb and inject the supply at the output pins of your regulators?

On one hand I can't see why not...

OTOH, perhaps better it's better to have shorter path from on board reg to TDA1541a? I recall Oliver transitioning from similar on board regs to discrete salas shunts and claiming victory. So I figure if I've got them then may as well use them.

Hi Walter,

If you left out the whole power supply section on the PCB then you could tap into the separate supplies. But you could not power the on board regs individually if you populate them because the -5 and -15 are actually stacked and in series. (-5 and -10 stacked).

I remember looking at olivers shunt regs, as I recall he did not use a pass PNP in conjunction with the TL431, which alters the output impedance from around 15 milliohms to around 3 milliohms with the PNP.

In the past I've also used the salus shunts to power the 3 supplies but actually prefer how I have it now with the "zenner string".

Update

Finally finished testing the D3 PCB. I apologize I took so long but I had a few computer issues, one of them being my hard drive crashing and catching fire! Luckily the data was salvageable so I could finish this project.

This week I will order a batch of D3 PCBs and set up an ordering page.
