The second picture is of the driver boards I received. The one on the left has a sticker saying 3.5" NTSC on the back, so it's definitely for the 3.5" display. The reason why I think they didn't send me a driver board for the 1.8" display is that all the driver boards came packaged with the 3.5" display, and I didn't get anything else with the 1.8" display.

Hi,

shark-they should give you the other board to. Contact them Tell them they didnt send you all the boards. Dont seetle for that!

But They might be intruseable-hard to say offhand. you can chek by seeing if the connectors are teh same width from both lcds. see if they both fit exactly and not loose in that slot on the top right ofthe left board. if they both fit in their exactly they are probly the same.
and do both of the multicolored connectors fit exactktly in that spot on the bottom rigth of that same board?
I would still call those people thera and get a techy to talk with you about your questions. And get the other board to from them. they probly forgot or soemthing

colors

Cowen:
parhaps your LCD has the capability to display a 185K range of 4096K colors. Can only display certain amount at 1 time

general:
I like this small panel thread, much less useless talk than in the main thread. I was just going to make a post with this in it, but that would be a bit hypocritical, so I've waited till I had something not useless to say. ---HMM, I wrote that on page 8... before the bantering on page 9...

I interpreted the DIY small panel projector thread to be refering to using smaller than standard size LCD's (6" and lower) and building your own enclosures and doing all the optics yourself. Custom box and everything. Otherwise it ought to be called "DIY Slide-LCD projector". If its like that there is just as much DIY as the OHP thread. 1)Get slide projector 2)get 1.8" LCD to fit where slide goes. The hardest part is just finding the LCD to begin with. If you want this thread to be just slide projectors, what would you expect a thread that is actually about small panel projectors to be called?

cheap design

I used a small 2.5" pocket TV and the light and power supply from an old OHP, along with some lenses and a few fans to keep the thing cool. I'm putting it all in a new custom box for better air circulation. But all in all, it should be not much bigger than a large shoe box. The light is plenty bright for this small panel. The trick is keeping it cool.

POOP!

Well I think its confirmed we CANT buy real small lcd panel with vga resolution the smallest we can get is 6.4" I talked to 4 people and emailed about 20 people that make the real small screens and nobody sells to the public everyone said that they dont think anyone would sell to the public. So much for hopeing for a tiny screen.

So everybody trying small panel route must be aware, that working with small panels can be an experimental stadium of studying and trying projection, which is good for experience, but will not give very good results, as things are going up to now.

Just a thought, but maybe it's possible to get a replacement lcd for single panel projectors from a repair shop. The way I see it, sony, hitatchi, etc must supply spare parts for repair, and how often is it that the actual lcd panel is faulty in a projector? so it must be possible to buy one-offs, 'cause there's no way a single repair shop could buy in bulk!

I think this is probably the only way we'll be able to get our hands on the really high res panels that are actually used in commercial projectors.

that's my line of thinking

I was frustrated cause I couldn't find any Sharp QA-1850B so I emailed Sharp's technical support.

LoL, they emailed me back saying that they were sorry I was having trouble with my Sharp LCD and they sent me to a sharp repair place in my area.

Funny, they assumed I had some of their stuff.

But I was thinking if I could go out there and be like I need a replacement QA-1850 maybe they would order one for me 😀

Currently available panel resources:

With the exception of the Unipac 18d11, open up these puppies and mount the panel in your projector.

Here is a link showing how the Glasstron's can be dissassembled. Pretty straight forward disassembly and the Cannon FMD's should be roughly the same.
Simple pics (no description) of disassembly of Glasstron's
It'll take a minute if you have a "dial-up", to get these pics in all these links.

Another, with a more detailed explanation of all the Glasstron's being hacked.
Web page with details on opening and utilizing the panels from several of Sony's VR glasses

And another...
Another showing the insides of the VR glasses. This one used in a foreign language converter.

These links would give anyone considering using these panels an idea of your plan of attack for using in a slide projector or your own mini-projector design...basically, unscrew the parts out and mount suitably in your projector.
