Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

Triplefun,

I think it an overkill, Totally underutilised the CPU. I am running mine with a Celeron CPU perfectly fine. If you want something faster get a second-hand laptop or desktop or fanless PC, comes with 3 or 4th generation i5(must be low powered ie T version), plenty of processing power already and saves you heaps.

A fanless PC would be an advantage, my Celeron is fanless 'brick' PC I bought from a company in China, maybe you don't' want to buy Chinese goods now. FYI Chinese goods from ALiexpress are getting expensive esp. Intel-based new PC's. It's up to you.

Good luck. I am enjoying my Daphile Celeron PC now with newly designed speakers.

Thanks but you obviously have not tried PCM to DSD upsampling in realtime. It works great with daphile. For more details I suggest you look at some of the hqplayer threads and the troubles they are experiencing with some of the more complex filters. The ryzen ipc increase would appear to be a definite win and I am looking forward to seeing the feedback.

Delta sigma DACS such as those from ESS and akm internally upsample pcm streams to an internal DSD format prior to the analoge conversion.DSD streams are processed directly. The argument for computer based upsampling is increased flexibility and reduced strain on the dac. The daphile sox DSD upsampling is well regarded. Hqplayer offers even more options but is expensive. It is estimated that the highest quality hqplayer DSD512 upsampling requires a cpu with a single thread frequency of 7ghz which is beyond today's processors. The latest amd ryzen processors go some way in realising this requirement.

Dear friends:

My name is Juan and I write you from Costa Rica. I am a Daphile user from two months more or less. I have installed Daphile as the only OS within a 2007 Mac Mini (both system and music library in a 1Tb mechanical HD). I have a problem and I hope you could help me.

I have a certain number of albums in my Daphile collection so I wish to have a backup. I have a 1Tb external drive that I am no using anymore so I did the following:

1 - I erased all the external drive using disc utility from my Mac Book Pro (I left it as FAT32)

2 - I plugged it (using USB) to the MacMini that runs Daphile

3 - I went to Daphile Settings - Backup

4 - I selected the "incremental copy" option, also I selected the options that erase anything in the destination drive. I selected the internal drive as origin as external as destination. I also selected manual backup option

5 - I saved changes and I restarted

6 - I went to "info" section and I click on "backup"

7 - it seems to start properly, it begins to scan tracks ... but it stops when it gets about 2000 tracks and the the following message appears

I have checked the connections , I have used the full backup option instead of incremental but I don´t have a clue about the reason of this problem. Could you please help me? Any suggestion will be very appreciated. At the end of this message I link two other screen captures because I think that they could be useful.

In addition, I am planning to change my mechanical drive for a SSD drive so I have purchased a1Tb SSD (my plan was to backup all my music, then reinstall Daphile in my new SSD and then move my music from backup drive to SSD drive). Can I move my music from my mechanical drive to the SSD drive with another option or command instead of backup?

Thank you very much in advance for your time and your help.

Best regards,

Juan

In the later versions of Daphile the minimum disk size for system + music is 2 Tb. It wont install in a 1Tb disk.

@Tarasque You have overstated the requierements for Daphile by quite some....;) (I think perhaps you meant to post GB but your keyboard said otherwise.)

from the Daphile installation instructions...

2 Requirements
Computer to run Daphile:
▪ Processor: x86 architecture based, minimum i486
▪ RAM: 512MB
▪ Network adapter: Ethernet and/or wireless
▪ Bootable storage device: 2GB (SATA, IDE or USB)
▪ Audio device: internal (PCI), USB or FireWire
Another web browser equipped device to access Daphile

What is the bridge model?

I have the Allo USBridge Sig (not the signature player)
USBridge Sig - Ultra low noise RPI

I want to see how it sounds before I consider stepping into something like the ultraRendu or similar.

I really like Daphile, but when fed directly into my DAC, it can have unwanted distortion when I forget to unplug certain devices.

In the big picture, I am focused on improving the entire transport chain from server to DAC, and I am trying to narrow down where to start and what to focus on.

Thanks,
-Josh

I have what I hope is an easy question that I have not been able to find the answer too.

Can I output Daphile on ethernet (rather than usb)?

I want to output daphile via ethernet to an external USB bridge that only accepts ethernet input.

Thanks,
-Josh
Configure Daphile as the LMS File Server and MoOde on the USBridge Sig as the squeezelite player.
