If you have heard a Aksa Maya amp,,the you can talk about newer go back...i totally prefer ordinary SS amp ,,they plays more musical ,
and i still do not like Beyma cross this low,,,but they play totally fine about 2,8khz

Obviously only one can solve the mystery (For once I allow myself shameless bragging)

Here's a clue.

Around the time the M1 was launched, about 10 years ago, I was researching horn-throat transitions.
If you take a closer look at the Hertz horns...
You'll notice the throat section differs from similar horns, like this Monacor MRH-300 aka P.Audio PH-94:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

At least it has some novelty to it rather than the off the shelf components in a box I thought it was.
Would still rather see a nice waveguide instead.

Interesting research, is that a 1" or 1.4" Horn flare?
A couple of close up images of the M1 horn

Wonder if anyone identified what model this horn flare is?
It's what I call an "Altec Mantaray derivative".
Plenty of these available.
Some examples, in order of resembling the Hertz horn:

Quite ugly, but hey, it's a conversation piece for the happy few.A real brawl about Daniel Hertz M1 speakers at the Axpona show!!
Agreed about the price.
does anyone actually think they look good?
They look as tacky as you can get in my book.
I mean, with those size drivers and the distance between them, the directivity and sound stage will be all over the place.
I wouldn't touch it even if I had the money.

Looking at the photo's - it looks like a common *commercial (cast aluminum) horn that has been cut-out at the entrance and has a custom guide-adapter plate to increase expansion from the compression driver into the horn. (..and obviously the external mount plate (chrome-plate) is custom as well).
*and the horn is being used horizontally with its vertical orientation (resulting in narrower horizontal dispersion with a higher spl-loss rate off-axis.)

The driver appears to be a Beyma SMC-65, so 1.4".Interesting research, is that a 1" or 1.4" Horn flare?

I built a 3-way (partly) modelled on the M1, using Faital Pro 18 inch sealed 'sub' (powered by 500-watt MiniDSP amps), Beyma 12 inch mid and Beyma TPL150 in custom CNC'd waveguide. Passive LR2 xover for the mid/horn (200Hz / 2,500Hz). Very big/clean output. Paired with Weston Acoustic Class A power amps and pre-amp. For a gent in Malaysia. Personally, I like my 3-way horn rig (CNC'd) myself, with Altec 15 416 bass in my owned designed horn (ported), Yuichi 290 plus 3,000Hz lathe turned tractrix horn. All passive xover, 500Hz/3,000Hz LR2.

@atilsley Thanks most interesting
My own design will take some cues from the M1 but will use separate modules for each driver the cabinets will be over engineered as I did with my hommage to the Wilson X1 some 25 years ago!! my first real big build in my 20s
My use of separate modules means I can play about with diffeent drivers with dedicated crossovers.
Early days with the concept though.

Great!I built a 3-way (partly) modelled on the M1, using Faital Pro 18 inch sealed 'sub' (powered by 500-watt MiniDSP amps), Beyma 12 inch mid and Beyma TPL150 in custom CNC'd waveguide. Passive LR2 xover for the mid/horn (200Hz / 2,500Hz). Very big/clean output. Paired with Weston Acoustic Class A power amps and pre-amp. For a gent in Malaysia. I plan to design a speaker with similar approach with Beyma TPL200 + 10MCF400Nd and probably 21PW1400Fe V2.
Can you name your 12" mid please?
Cheers,
J.
