DAC AD1862: Almost THT, I2S input, NOS, R-2R

It is entirely up to subjective hearing. Someone prefers 1541A, some PCM63P, some AD1862 and who likes AD1862 likes AD1865 more etc.. There is no definitive saying to what is best, all chips mentioned here are best r2r has to offer, but it comes down to miniscule differences that one prefers over the other. Anyhow, my TDA1541A chips arrived, package is waiting for me at home still unopened 😀 It will be a battle among PCM63P vs TDA1541A, only one will stay 🙂

I totally missed the chance to say in time, "there can be only one" 🤣

But here they are, should be some couple of months before the dac is made though.

Try Pedja neigbhoor ? 😆

seriously no idea ! Maybe Grunf ?
During the last year, I bought on ebay on two occasions seven pieces of PCM1702 but DIP , all original and working. Even the price was OK by today's standards, only $10 per piece. As for the current offer on ebay, I don't know what I would take, the prices have gone up and they don't look original.
Maybe these or buying a used CD-player with PCM1702 as I thought when the postmen lost my last shipment.

pcm1702

pcm1702

We have the same problem with PCM1702 as @zoom777 . The voltage stabilizer on the -5V analog part go into current limiting. It seems like a very serious problem (like short circuit inside the chip or similar). When the PCM1702 chips are removed, the power supply is ok. Who knows what is in those chips, but 1702 is not.

I will ask the seller for a refund or to send me two working PCM1702. Maybe I'll succeed maybe not, so far I've succeeded in most cases. You just have to be persistent. 🤣

Dale MIL is a very poor choice indeed if you talk abouut the wirewound one (or the RN55 too). I advice though to re read the tests I made about resistors before in this thread...

Charcroft are not my prefered from previous test on a different layout with another dac chip, but I am very curious about the Vishay Powertron... hard to find though in that values... well some say I/V resistors is not that important. I disagree, it IS on my loudspeaker that have great resolution with their 5.5 aluminium mid à la YG and idem material for the tweeter ! YMMV according the loudspeaker and amp you have though ! My amp has noo particular sound signature (death neutral).
