DAC AD1862: Almost THT, I2S input, NOS, R-2R

In my setup the tda1541a with a 150 R at the outputt of the opa861 as buf. was a very good improvment but only in 1/8 W , the 1/4, 1/2 w were very different !

Not mettalic in my setup, nore mellow, I believe the 150 R is not a big value at the output but I can hear eac resistor I tried there from tantalum to Dale Rn55 (the worst for me) and many else ! I believe the very thin leads of the 1/8W where for something related to my whole setup ! I must say the tda1541a dac is dc coupled : no traffo, no caps : sounds are so subtle but still hearable I had to avoid any soldering of this resistr cause the solder whatever the comp (silver 4% the worst) wasted the perfect equilibrium it gave (I repeat : in my setup) !

Despite it's carbon comp it sounds right to my ears : maybe some H3 trace or a little distorss : but again 150 R is very few but that R is mandatory for best results. (The R of the I/V is a Rohpoint ayrton Perry wirewound 516G) : the fact there is not the small loopback cap in the buffer sounds better too if the whole setup or headphones is sensible enough to that changes.

If metallic : look at & focus on the supply and decoupling (and the source quality too).

At the end those smal details have to be adapted and worked for each of us in relation to their whole setup by ears...

R8 : try to 1K to see if different than the 830R in your case - I mean still with no outpout 861 buf- I believe the 200R with the 861 but in between is also too much little but at each to find the equilibrium he likes most : that's an easy way to tune that playing a little with passive parts and supply here to reach his subjectives liked tastes 🙂 Nothing writen in the marble but if you measure only which is not the final goal of a NOS DAC. Imho, YMMV ! 🙂

hello diyiggy, i did not found that rohpoint resistor you mention, are you sure is 516g?

I liked the first one so much I built a second for my father: Miro's board with 6171s (we'll try some others, I can't see him paying $28 per op amp for 627s 🙂 ), Pass B1 buffer and an Academy Audio Muses control for volume, 3e 3251 amp and a Meanwell 24v power supply.

The wiring isn't going to win any contests but it sounds pretty nice and you can't see through the case anyway. This is my second case from Landfall Systems, I really like them - built like a tank, easy to machine, and made by real people in Texas. (I spec'd it to sit tall but ended up setting it down on the long side, so the face place doesn't hide the sides like it would if I used the long side as the face)

i2s help

Hi can someone help me how to connect this board to my hifiberry dac+ pro that has i2s out. There are 5 pins GND, Master CLK, Bit CLK, Frame CLK, Data. Im not entirely sure where the LRCK goes to Frame or Master CLK? This is just temporary solution to test dac board befor making it final setup. Thx
