Unlike other speakers I've had, there is very little sound when you stand between the speakers, untill you are a good 6 or 7 foot away, again I presume due to the beaming of the sound waves.
What comes to mind is an old Marants advert where the guy is sat in a chair, and when the music turns on its like he is sat in a hurricane, or the energy waves that Neo projects in the Matrix slow mo scenes.
They go loud, without you realising, as the clarity stays, it wasn't till out 18 year old lad came down and told me and his Mum off as he couldn't hear the TV upstairs that we realisied how loud we were playing it. Tut! tut!😱

3 sheets of 18mm MDF, the drivers were probably around £200ish with postage etc, this is an estimate as I paid money when I had some over a few week. All in I havn't spent that much, tweeters I already had, veneer around 30-40 quid, CAT5 free. I've spent more on water based paints to play with than wood (anyone want any black paint, got gloss, satin, matt, semi matt, floor, cubboard, melamine, a bad case of "I see a red door and ...").
Chrisb, only problem is my beloved will listen to her music but moans when I put some 70's prog rock or mad dance music on, in my house its "whats good for goose is, ah stuff the gander" ie Iron thumb Michelle rools the roost.
Forgot to mention even the Prodigy sound almost refined through the CC's, the speed and urgency of thier music is still there but with a refinement, "music for the jilted generation" rocked, but in a refined way, not laid back though, this was probably one of the strangest experiences so far, refined musical mayhem.

Well done. Looks great and exudes creativity. I'm so glad this hobby doesnt lean towards the analytical and away from the artistic. Smartly done designs can be dressed up to suit different tastes. Its nice to know beneath all the personal touches is an intelligently designed, great sounding speaker. I expect they sound excellent.
oh, you said mad sax - for a moment I had visions of "Iron Michelle" and ............. oh, never mind

Still amazed.
Basicly go home from work pick 2 or 3 CD's sit down, enjoy cd's from begining to end, go to bed, get up go to work, begin again.
Films also sound incredable through EnABLed drivers, hope to have a full Cury Chang based HT within a few months.

The paint can drive one crazy, that I know. Excellent work though. I bet they sound great, I might be turned yet from the dark side.

The paint job is on hold till I can spray them, theres just to much area. I'm a bit miffed with my veneer finish as well, its had 9 coats of Plastic Coating, and when I rub it back I get a nice matt, flat finish, then when I buff it up distant images are distorted as the coating seems to have slight waves in it, looks like more coats and more rubbing down, i'll leave that till the weathers a bit better and I do the spraying.
I think the crazy pattern is called EnABL, i belive there may be a smallish thread on it somewhere🙂

The waviness might be due to how the veneer was glued. The smallest defect will telegraph through when you go high gloss. It was my original intention to do the same gloss on the veneered parts of mine, but even though this was factory applied veneer, it was still not good enough.
I ended up cutting back the gloss to a smooth satin, that IMO, looks more refined anyway. Also makes a nice contrast.

Among the products displayed by a local hi-end audio shop are the AudioNote speakers. Leaving aside the question of their performance/value, the finish on some of the higher end models is for my taste most unfortunate.
A wide selection of veneers are available, some quite highly figured (maple & poplar burl) and containing marked colour contrasts (Rosewood)

But the higher end models are finished with what appears to be at least 1/8" thick crystal clear polyurethane top coat. While this may very well contribute to stiffening of the enclosure, which is certainly not over-braced internally, the cosmetic result with some of the lighter species is a very cold, artificial look. Honestly, the "cheap" (oops, "Level 1") AudioNote vinyl wrapped boxes look more real.
I guess at the multi-decade kilobucks stratosphere inhabited by these products, one needn't worry about marring the finish with inappropriately placed flower vase, Bud can or pizza box.
By contrast, the finish on the Sonus Faber Elipsa in the same showroom is a glorious statement in "just right"

I think that is the problem, its so irritating as you cant actualy feel the bumbs and close up (ie when I did the buffing) it looks OK. Trouble is they sit opposite the window so in a morning all I can see are wavy reflections Arghhhhh!!!!!
