So how do the Curvey Changs sound, initial views very nice, and go loud as me and the misis have found out this morning.
Will give a more in depth view when I have listened more and my ears get use to the sound.
So for now I rate them
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

nice to hear, the initial comments.

Marc says he'll have further comments early in the week... he seems pretty excited.

I got a phone call from him yesterday just before he sat down for his 1st serious session.... and then i got a call from Scott (1st time we have communicated other than electronically)... it reminded me of something an associate from London said "i can tell were in England someone is from by their accent". Scott really confused me at first because he sounds like Marc -- over the digital phone lines i thot it was Marc phoning back... good to finally chat with Scott. (and i'm sure he thot my accent was pretty thick too... hmmm i wonder if a good canajum accent has the same affect on girls over there as a good Brit one does on the girls here?)

Well Gentlemen, had a good weekend going through my CD collection (when I got chance, unfortenatley my beloved also loves the Curvy Changs, so there is a bit of a fight on who gets to play thier CD's).

Not knowing what to expect as both the cabinet and the EnABLE process were unkowns (unheard) by myself, I could only speculate as to the sound, from comments about BVR and EnABLEd drivers. What i was presented with was a bit of a shock to the system.
Firstly the bass (which is still improving as the driver breaks in), it goes low enough for me to enjoy my "dance" cd's again (a lot always sounded thin on the FE166's in Fostex BLH), it has a kick to it again (you can feel the kick drum), the BLH's bass was sort of divorced from the rest of the spectrum, the Changs bass is there with the rest of the music, very timely and very hard to stop my foot tapping, it underpins the music and gives a real sense of timing, all while being a beutiful textured sound, not one note booming. (Chris Squires Rickenbaker harmonics are just gorgeous).
The midrange is clear and well detailed, not the most verbose of descriptions, but its hard to realy describe what an EnABLEd driver sounds like, or more importantly what it DOSEN'T sound like. The EnABLEd 207 makes my 166's (with phase plugs) sound like shrieking banshee's to my ears. The detail revealed is unbelivable, what sounded like a twang or a ping (back to dance music) is actualy a textured sound with decay and vibrato, where real instruments are being played you can picture how they are plucking the strings, when the drummer taps the rim of the snare you can picture how far down the stick he is hitting it.
When sat at the (almost) ideal listening position ( I can only manage 11' from the speakers) the sound is integrated, Ron's description of a rather large FR driver is correct, the sound bubbles hit you from one point source, again I'm finding it hard to describe the effect, I will work out how to describe it better as I listen more.
This is an initial view, I was planning on doing a proper sit down review, and trying to ***** and record my views as the music was playing, unfortenatly that lasted about 2 tracks then the CD's just piled up in front of the system as the "I'll just listen to that" syndrome kicked in, and I got too involved with the music to bother about anything else.
I will post some pics as now they are in situ they do not look anything like as big as they did in free space and take up less room than the FE166's in the BLH.
Conclusions, Scott, Ron, Dave you have created a winner, and my thanks for the work you have done (Same comments to Bud on the EnABLE pattern). They are the best speakers I have ever had the pleasure of owning and IMO the most musical, you sit in front of them and listen to music, then more music, then more ...
Anyone wants to come have a listen just PM me and we'll arrange it, it would be nice to get other opinions.
Dave, any info on mods for 207's would be appreciated, I've got to do my 166's (I think the 166's will go in a curvey cabinet as soon as one is done).

Although I enjoyed your opinion on the sound, I know you are hiding that artistic museum piece of visual art...

I'll post some pictures tommorow, the front and rear are finished its just the sides, which I am going to have spray painted, that are not quite done.
Must admit at some points during this build I was ready to throw the towel in, low points when somthing goes wrong, or the end never seems to get any closer, etc, the finishes still arn't good enough for me (the veneer has 8 coats of plstic coating, has been sanded down to nothing yet still has visual artefacts grrrrr!) but now they create music I dont care, I can redress these issues at my liesure now knowing that the effort and end result will be worth it.
Dave said I seemed excited, I think estatic would be a more apt description, and of course I now grok EnABL.

to my thinking, the fact that you're finding it hard to settle down to write a "full review", 'cause you're too busy listening says volumes

building an audio system that can deliver this kind of enjoyment isn't particularly difficult or necessarily costly, but sharing it with a beloved over which the arguments are about who gets to listen to what and when - that's priceless

enjoy

^ Excatly Chris. And the fact that you are listening to whole CDs rathe than flipping about suggests that they sound very good.

Now then. How much were those P10 207s? And how much MDF did you use? (If you don't mind me asking, that is)disappears to check bank balance

Should be a totally new experience as you are presented with a focus of the energies throughout the spectrum. At present you have a "one of a kind" in the world.

it has a kick to it again (you can feel the kick drum),

Again, the energy is focused.

(the world looks down on geeks, but we make it run)

(I think the 166's will go in a curvey cabinet as soon as one is done).

After the holidays, tomorrow i am off to SC fer some R&R...... well i still have to build a portable Geo dome for a green house while i am there.(kinda neet, its a self watering system that is keyed by ground moisture level, a sorta kinda plug in and forget veggie production system that is self contained)
Finished with the scanner and turned over the keys to the production ppl today so maybe i will have some time to devote to audio once again.

Been trying to sort pictures out (still need practice),

I would honestly say out of all the systems I have experienced I find this the most enjoyable and musicaly involving. If anyone has a suggestion for a CD or track to listen to and give a revue I will do it if I have the CD, that way I can describe it with a reference fand it will focus my mind.

Some front views, I will add that unfortenatly the rebate for the drivers was a tiny bit to small when I actualy got the speakers home, this was rectified with cider and a chisel, hence it was midnight of the fist day before I got power through them.
This then made for an interesting initial listen as I couldn't up the bvolume that much, but could still hear the detail.
