if i had two 16ohm WR125ST's i would need a tweeter so i would be veering away from my fullrange idea.

That's what I will be doing in the next little while. Two of the WR's run straight up and this tweeter. Nice integration, first order XO fairly high (read super easy XO). Approx 26 litre sealed enclosure. MTM.

The truncated frame seems to match too. They seem to go together.

I may or may not need BSC, these little guys make better woofers than mids. I sometimes wonder about the W in WR. Does it really mean wide range? 😉

EDIT: I see on the PE website the tweeter is slightly different. I have the 25-302SE which seems to have a heatsink on the magnet but the one ion their site does not. Not sure if that's the only difference.

Good for you Cal:

I see you finally took some of the good advice that has been offer to you.
I like the look of those drivers and a simple cross over to boot. You have come a long way my friend.

I can help you make a nice cabinet if you want. All you have to do is come over to the island with a soda keg and spend the weekend? We should be able to whip something up real nice and pretty like.

Nuff said for now

Hi,

go with the "real life" data from the magazines. I know both editors in person and you can trust them! I took the average of both measurements.

Qtc 0.707 is the "ideal" Q for a closed baffle, easy spoken (the Physics behind are more complicated of course)

Hey inrank, that looks like a nice speaker!

The efficency is the week point, something between 80 - 85 db depending on the BSC, but that's a fair trade off for getting so much bass out off such a tiny fullrange driver. Anyways, with your 50 W NAD and the sub, it will go loud.

worked out that the total build will be £140 inc delivery for everything except for the wood.
The majority is from Wilmslow Audio ( stuffing, binding posts cable and connectors) and the drivers and fixings from Mad About Sound.

will either start next week in my easter holidays or wait until the summer (two months )

not to forget!

you forgot 2x 1.5 mH aircore inductors and 2 mox resistors (better get 6, 2x3.9, 2x5.6 and 2x 8.2 ohm to try out) for the BSC network.

You may also ask vikash about the BSC and what he thinks about a notch filter for the peak at 8kHz, we once discussed that in another thread and I believe the filter very usefull, I'm using 0.05mH, 15ohm and 10üF for the notch.

How many are actually using BSC with FR125? Is it necessary?

Me & Yes it is necessary if you prefer a flat frequency response, like with almost every speaker, unless you have them wall or corner loaded.

inrank, you will notice the difference, your speaker will sound kind of thin without the BSC - i.e. Johnny Cash will sound like a dwarf. It's really a simple network, just put the inductor and the resistor in paralell and that package in series with the driver.

John "Zaph" Krutke gives some simple rules on adjusting the BSC to your needs, there you'll find a schematic too.

which is most reliable?

None of them. Factory is probably the most reliable average.

I've measured more than 30 of them, the variation is quite wide.... and Fs was more like 75 Hz average.

Also keep in mind that there is no standard for drive when measuring the T/S parameters -- i can measure the same driver as someone else and get completely different results -- the way the results change doesn't much affect their tuning in a sealed box, and the Q is really too high for a good BR box, hence my strong preference for near aperiodic thru sealed (i'm ignorning OBs here which are sonically one of the big winners, but if you have a large room can easily exceed the drivers ability to more air and have some WAF issues).

Be careful about BSC... in a small room these don't need much and, like me, you may find they take away more than the give....

Attached is an in-room measure of a miniO with damping (about 3/4" of foam) added to the ports. (no filters, no BSC)

okay, you may or may not want or need it, but if you want to now, you will have to know/hear the difference, that means to try it out.
