modern young people does not listen enough
to the one and only Jimi Hendrix
they do not make such guitarist too often

lineup.
Keep an eye open for a British guitarist called Jeff Beck, you might like him also.
My vote would go for Dub Side of the Moon by the Easy Star All Stars. http://www.easystar.com/releases/show/2
It's a dub reggae reworking of Dark side of the moon and a fine piece of recording engineering as well. You can turn a Floyd fanatic to a shivering mess with it, and I have.

I know Jeff Beck
I even have some original vinyl LP-s by him, from way back late 60-ies
( was not released, like you say RECENTLY )
he is good ... but noway near Mr. Hendrix
but then again, nobody else is close to the magical Jimi either
🙂

They just came up with Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band and it's really good: http://www.myspace.com/easystarallstars

Splendid! That should get the Beatles fans twitching as well as the Floyd fans.
Just noticed they are playing about 30 miles from me in 9 days time, I might just have to pop along to that. Thanks for the link.
I assume Hayseed Dixie are known over there, they tour the UK a lot..... Damn fine live band, always put on a good show.

I recently discovered Elisa (Elisa Toffoli but she is known professionally as Elisa)
I know that I will be branded as an heretic for admitting this but Bob Marley just doesn't do it for me.
However, I an completely enthralled by Elisa's rendition of Redemption Song.
She also does a very good cover of Halleluja but on that one I think that Imogen Heap has the edge - just 🙂

Check this one, not bad at all 😉

I see somebody mentioned Mary Arden Collins a while back, her cover of Dimming of the Day is indeed lovely, even better if you see her sing it live.
Another great cover of a Richard Thompson song is Walking on a Wire by Knots and Crosses (Carol Noonan's old band).

"Smothered Hope" - Ministry (Skinny Puppy, with their lead singer doing the lyrics oddly enough.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2wgEzdrJo
"Hurt" - Johnny Cash (Nine Inch Nails)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go
"Some Velvet Morning" - Slowdive (Nancy Sinatra)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6z-XlkyYk8
Primal Scream does a decent cover of it too, but the Slowdive cover is better.
And of course, without a doubt, the best cover of all time:
"Umbrella" - Vanilla Sky - (Rihanna)

If you watch just one of these videos, watch the last one 🙂 🙂 🙂

Alltime favorite cover tune, and one that's been covered many many times:
D.O.A. - WAR (What is it good for?) (original by Edwin Starr)

Nice singing, cheesy video. Here's a far better cover of the same song:

Cover of Gnarls Barkley - Crazy with Theremin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW0B1sipLBI
not really better than Gnarls (esp the slow jam version) but they keep pulling his for copyright.

"Satisfaction" the Otis Redding and the Devo version I like better than The Rolling Stones version.
Best taken with a grain of salt (& wedge of lime)
