Conrad heatsinks group buy

ComAir

I talked to a few people at ComAir awhile back about a couple of extrusions that looked real good. They have a calculator to get what you want for dimensions and tells you the thermal C/W some as low as 17.

I think the E1387 is a good candidate.
They wont sell direct.

I got passed to synergistics locally, they passed me to Arrow Electronics, who never got back to me. If I promised an order of 200-300 feet, they might get interested.

They seem to have lots of extrusions, and cant imagine they would not have something almost all would be happy with. If we can agree on an extrusion, and amount of 12-14" cuts, I can help push through what I already started.

edit: One last thing. These heat sinks can also be cut to different heights. For those of you who want them to be even taller than the 6 inch standard I am going to use, it could be done. I obviously don't want 20 different heights, but if some people agree about a taller heat sink I am fine with getting some cut. Two or three different heights are fine with me.... [/B]

I'd be interested in a 12" height option :devilr:

It occurs to me that if Conrad is on backorder status for this extrusion and expecting the new shipment in the next few weeks, it might be prudent to be at the front of that backorder list, rather than waiting for the next shipment to arrive before placing the order. Just a thought.

Sorry for the delay, life has been busy and communication sparse from different vendors. I think the order will in fact be placed through Conrad. Accel thermal kept telling me they could do the heat sinks just like I wanted with no minimum order, but today after I tried to nail down a buy they said they can't actually do it. I'm sick of dealing with them, so Conrad it is. I agree with the comment on closing the group buy earlier, so the deadline to order is going to be March 25th. This will give me time to collect payment and get money to Conrad. On the 25th, I will email everyone interested to confirm orders, and also confirm if custom milling is wanted for an additional $2.50. Thanks for your patience everyone,

Chris

If you want heat sinks, just copy and paste the list below and add your name in the same format. Also, if you want a heat sink milled with some type of lip, it's going to be a bit more complicated to calculate. Instead of a flat $2.50 fee, there is actually an initial $30 setup fee to mill the heat sinks. After that, each heat sink costs $1.50 per side milled. So if you wanted a pair of heat sinks to have a lip on one side, it's $3, plus the $30 setup divided among users who decide to get their heat sinks milled. If you wanted a pair of heat sinks to have a lip on the top and bottom, it would be $6, plus the $30 divided fee. If more than ten heat sinks are milled, the cost per side milled is $1.12 instead of $1.50. Let me know if anyone is confused or wants more info about the milling process.

Will the lip be 2 or 3mm deep (i.e. how thick can the top or bottom be so that it is flush) and how many screws along the side and what diameter?

I'd like all 12 of my sinks milled on top and bottom. Furthermore, if it's possible to add a pair of tapped screws on the front and the back ends of each for the ultimately in lazyiness, I'd do that too. If I'm the only person interested in this, I'll pay the entire setup fee if need be.

I am just as lazy. So, that makes 2 of us now. Any more lazy bones to jump this bandwagon 🙂
