Chassis for a group order of non-inverted GC kit?

Well, I don't want to make a deadline, but I will not proceed with the order if I won't collect enough funds. The money from additional items and shipping will provide some extra cash, even if not enough orders were made. I understand that some of you will decide to buy later, but I need at least 3/4 of the cash outlay for chassis units, before ordering. The lead time is about 3 weeks, so I will be collecting any outstanding payments in a meantime.

So whoever can pay now, please do it 😉

To speed things a bit, as well to make shure I didn't overlooked any contribution, I will be posting a list of people who already made the payments: http://www.diyaudio.com/wiki/index.php?page=NI+GC+Chassis+Group+Order

Well, the gainclone chassis might work for lots of different smaller projects. For the Bsoz, a person could buy 2 chassis, one undrilled, and use that one for the power supply. (with an LED of course) Expensive, but would look and work incredible.

It seems like the existing chassis would work well for a Foreplay tube pre amp for example, as it is.

Peter, you have a website and a business now, why not eventually make a bigger chassis that is full width, which would cover most remaining projects such as the BSOZ. A bigger chassis would even work for larger tube power amps, since most of the big stuff is on top, and the top is thick enough to support it.

There is only one other catagory: Huge class A amps, and that would probably be a good catagory to stay away from 😉

Incidentely, Plitron list a chassis made from 1/8" aluminum and with a VERY thick front panel, beautifully finished, all around, that is HUGE for $200

Actually, Integrated GC chassis is perfectly good for BOSOZ, you don't even need a separate PS (just a few more holes in a back). Transformer stays where it is and PS caps are on the other side of shaft extenders, along the sides. The active circuitry of BOSOZ is so simple that the space to fit it inside is not a problem. If there is enough intererst, I can come up with modified version to accomodate everything that is needed for that preamp in the GC chassis.

While Plitron chassis is fine, it is not a "specialized" product😉

No offense, Peter but there won't be any cost saving if it's not a group buy for BOSOZ chassis. After all, this is a group order thread.

The gainclone chassis looks excellent to me except that I need something that is a little bit bigger that would fit signal and power supply in there just like what variac has suggested.

My friend ordered one of your pots. I'm not clear if they are in stock or whether you are waiting for a minimum number of orders to get these also. If you are waiting- he and I need toknow so we can get a temp replacement so we can hear our amps!!!

If they are in stock- why I'll get one tooo.

Coming back to the subject of the knobs, those Classe knobs look pretty good when recess is made for them. Maybe that's the way to go with Integrated chassis? I could do half/half recess/no recess and offer Classe knobs as a part of a kit.

I could also provide silkscreening at no extra cost with SPECIALIZED Integrated Amp and Sources/Volume (including dots) on front panel. What you see in a pic is a front panel made by the local source that will do the Integrated chassis (same finish).

Any comments welcome.

I will proceed with the chassis order on Monday. Having Brian's boards, I want to make one more prototype to make sure everything works fine. There will be at least 50 pcs. ordered. So far, I received payments for approx. 25 units. This is enough to guarantee future sales.

The order form specifies some options (blank panels, Cardas patented posts). The order will be made based on the forms I receive untill that time. After that, there will be no options, just standard layout (as in the pictures).

So if you are hesitant with payment, you can still forward the forms and pay later. I won't need your money untill I take the delivery of the chassis units, which is at least 3 weeks form this Monday 😉.

I really like the recessed Classe knobs for the front panel. They appear to be a more appropiated length when recessed, comparing with the previous pictures.

My question is, how do you attach the knob if the set screw is recessed. Do you attach the knob to the shaft extender before putting it into the chassis?
