Hello Peter,
I realize your hands are full with this whole chassis thing, but Brian, while carefully limiting his options, offered several options.
IMHO he probably offered too many, but it was a service to those that didn't want his whole package.
So, my proposal to you is that you hav ONE option: the kit of parts including selector, volume jacks terminals, knobs- the whole shebang but no actual chassis.
My argument is that you will still have to group all the parts in a package, so it isn't any different than the package you are putting together for your chassis'. The additional buyers might help lower the cost of parts significantly. Some of use reallly can't afford the chassis- or have other box idea.

At this moment, the components addition is only for people who want to save on shipping by ordering all the other parts (besides Brian's kit) from one source (in this case, from me). I will not be offering a fixed kit on those extra parts as they will be dependant on different priorities and choices. As it is now, it doesn't create any problem for me, yet it gives people more chances for one stop shopping.
Main goal here was not volume buying and price discounts, but convenience.😉

Soooooo Sorry,
I was being one of those incredibly irritating people that don't read the thead carefully, then comment 🙄
I didn't know about your great website. I see how you are offering individual items. If you don't mind the work, this is a much greater service.
So please just ignore me 😉

So if I want to just use this as a power amplifier connected to my preamp I'd indicate I just want a plain face. Right????
Would a plain face come with the LED hole & LED?
Also am I reading the order form correctly, the two wood end caps are $10 extra?

If you specify blank front panel, there will be no holes at all. If you want LED, say you want LED in special instructions space.
The wood panels are cut and drilled by me and are separate from what chassis manufacturer delivers. It is extra, as some people might choose different wood type (or even different material) and will not be ordering that part. I will provide a drawing with dimentions for making matching panels.

hey peter, whats the part number on the plitron transformer you are using in the chasis? I have a 500VA model that I think would be way too big to fit (its about 15cm diameter and 7 or 8 cm high).
The 300VA part number is 077015201 and 400VA is 757015201. Both those TX fit inside. 500VA is probably too big. Everything with dis up to 5" and height 2.5" will fit.
I will be away starting this evening and be back on Wednesday night. I might not be able to answer any questions during that time. Unexpected family emergencey requires my trip to Europe.
The order form is here, I'd like to finish collecting orders end of next week, so keep them coming in😉

As I mentioned previously, large part of any profits, will be donated to diyAudio.com.
PS: As a special service for those who don't have woodworking tools (and chemicals), or just don't want to bother, I can smooth out the corners and sand the outside surface of wooden panels and treat them with a wood sealer. It will intensify natural maple color, bring out the grain and protect the wood against elements. Be aware that this will prevent any subsequent staining. Just make a note in an instructions section, if you want me to do that. I guess they will be worth 10 bucks now😉

Peter,
What should we do if want to get the knobs from you along with the chassis?
Hope your trip goes well.

Interestingly, At M. Percy both the ALps and Noble are specc'ed with 6mm shafts. So which is it? 6mm or 1/4" ?
From experience I have found that the alps shafts are in fact 6mm not 1/4 ", my 1/4" knobs fit a little loose on all alps pots I've tried. I can not vouch for the noble pots though, I am guessing that all non US made pots will have 6mm shafts.
budwiser said:looking at a ruler 6mm looks like 1/4 inches maybe a half mm smaller than 1/4
1/4" is exactly 6.35 MM
Noble, Alps, Elma shafts, all measure 5.98mm. However, obtaining 6mm shafts extenders is a bit harder here, as 1/4" brass rods are easily available from metal suppliers. Especially problematic is 6mm bushing washer (plastic ring I'm using for that purpuse) and I didn't see anything like that here.
While getting this from abroad is not a problem and I just got myself while bunch of 6mm brass and aluminim rods.

Power switch??
I'm very impressed with the chassis design, but I have one naive question, where is the power switch? There is a power entry module, but I don't see a switch anywhere. How does everyone plan on turning this gainclone on and off. Thanks.

There is no power switch. For best performance the amp should be ON permanently. You can always switch it off by disconnecting a power cord😉
This is nothing new, and many preamps and CD players nowadays don't feature a power switch. Since the standby current draw of this amp is not different than that of an average preamp, I decided not include a power switch.
I remind everybody to proceed with their orders and payments, as I didn't collect enough yet to submit the chassis order to manufacturer. Here's a link to an on-line order form: http://www.specializedkits.com/groupbuy.html

Thanks, Peter. I thought it might be the case that the power cord was the actual "switch". I was just not aware that this was that common.
Do you have a deadline for this yet, as I'm feeling a bit skint at the moment, but would still like to get a kit if I can, so I was wondering how long I can wait before I have to commit to paying the money.
