Chassis Discussion

Just wanted to say I got mine today from Modushop in Italy via Fed Ex. I noticed the DIYAudio button under the OurProducts drop down and ordered from there. The picture was a little confusing because it showed the RCA jacks etc but it never said anything on the website about that so I waited until I got it today. Bad news, no RCA jacks etc, good news, side panels pre-drilled and back panel has all cut outs. Thanks for the excellent work, I can't wait until I get the rest of my parts for the power supply and can break out the soldering iron.

I live in the US and buy direct from Modushop on a regular basis (roughly 2-4 chassis annually). Shipping typically takes 3-6 days, weekends included, and customs has never been an issue. Of course, that may change given the turmoil we are now creating at our borders.

Regards,
Scott

Once shipped my orders took under a week to arrive to NJ with the regular shipping option. As noted earlier in this thread, if the order is $1k or more you will most likely get hit with import fees due to being aluminum. No idea what the recent tariff changes might do to this. In my case it was cheaper to split a $1,200 order into two because the shipping cost was only $4 or so more and the import fees were $80, so 15% the total order.

Did the new design chassis from Modushop, that are to be stocked in the DIYStore, clear customs or are they going to be subject to the 25% aluminum tariff? Waiting for the 4U400 chassis esp, but also 3U as well, since they will be prepunched on back panel and machined with new UMS pattern on heat sink, as I understand it.

Modushop does not list those on their site.

^ They are in the USA already.

Your understanding is correct. Some last minute logistics to tackle, and they'll be available.
I assume these will sell out fast but is it possible that there were more than enough ordered for F5M kits available form the store. In other words, you had 100 F5M kits, so you ordered 100 plus of the desired chassis? I know not everyone will want the same chassis, but just curious.

^ I appreciate the question, but I hope you understand that we don't divulge exact order quantities or inventories. Overall, we certainly hope that we ordered 'enough'.

In addition, I can share that we have one last-second addition that we'll have on offer... soon... :snail: We hope they will make a number of people happy. We don't like "keeping secrets", so if you were one of the people that didn't get a PASSdiy chassis, we will have those on offer in both 4U and 5U configurations. Our sincere thanks go to @Nelson Pass for allowing us to do another small run. For those that may ask, the design did not work well with 2U or 3U models, so we will not be offering it in those sizes.

Look forward to all the details of the new design being published as quickly as we work through logistics.

Suffice it to say, chassis has been at the top of the list in all discussions, and we've dedicated a lot of time along with our friends at Modushop / HiFi200 (@Gianluca) to offering the best chassis for DIYers. We truly appreciate everyone's patience.

I think that limit is $800 as it’s been all over the news lately.
Indeed the limit is $800. At least for now.

There's another threshold at $2500. Once you cross that you need to be an official importer. That means giving your tax ID to the customs broker. For an individual that's typical their social security number. There's no extra cost that I'm aware of. It's just for record-keeping.

Similarly, when I export an order valued at more than $2k CAD from Canada to countries outside NAFTA I get to file additional paperwork. I guess that's how they keep track of the trade balance. 🙂

What I like is a wide chassis - Dissipante 4U 300mm 10mm SILVER - that will fit nicely next to the V-FET chassis. And because it will be a hefty SIT5 - 2SK182 build idling at about 60-100W per channel I cannot fit it in a smaller one. Maybe shorter but not less wide.
AND
The front 'really needs' the V-FET signature (not the sine). 😎

- So I am asking Gianluca to make such . . I am just pondering how far I will go. Just cut out or filled/printed digitally black? I have to understand more. 😴
I'll post progress - as well on the SIT-5 page with my 'absolutely not novel but great' circuit.

Hi Everyone!

The new 2025 Deluxe Chassis and Back Panel Kits are now in stock.

https://diyaudiostore.com/collections/chassis

🙂

What makes the new Deluxe chassis more deluxe than the previous version? Several things:
  • The new back panel has a gorgeous silkscreen, has pre-drilled holes for two sets of inputs, and is sized for a variety of PEMs including the filtered Schurter model included in our back panel parts kit.
  • The UMS heatsink pattern has been updated with more holes for a variety of mounting options.
  • The bottom panel is now pre-drilled for feet, and we now include the premium anti-vibration feet.
  • All models from 2U to 4U are now 400mm deep. So, embrace the modularity. If you want a new chassis size, all you’ll need is new heatsinks and front and back panels.
  • We now are thrilled to offer the PASSdiy faceplates, and we may have more faceplate options over time.
  • The new back panel parts kits include XLR, RCA, and blanks to cover almost all input configurations, and now include a premium Schurter filtered power entry module.
